Credits ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 2.Game Overview ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 2.01 Story This is the story of Super Mario 64 DS. Note that these are lifted directly from the game's manual, and is not my own words. "Please come to the castle. I've baked a cake for you." At the invitation of Princess Peach, Mario, accompanied by party crashers Luigi and Wario, enter the Mushroom Castle. But when the three don't come out of the castle for a long time, Yoshi decides to check up on them. Upon entering the castle, Yoshi discovers that no one is there. According to Toad, Bowser has stolen the Power Stars guarding the castle and locked Princess Peach into the walls and paintings. Maybe Mario and his friends have been captured by the paintings, too! Now it's up to Yoshi to rescue Princess Peach, Mario, Luigi, and Wario from the castle's paintings and walls! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 2.02 Characters ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ These are the characters of Super Mario 64 DS. ******************* Playable Characters ******************* ----- Mario ----- Mario is the quintessential hero of Mushroom Kingdom. He's saved Princess Peach countless times, and now he has to do it again. But with Mario out of the picture, can Mushroom Kingdom survive this fresh onslaught that Bowser has brought to fore? Ratings - Mario ----- Power = ** (Out of ***) ----- Speed = ** (Out of ***) ----- Jump = ** (Out of ***) Special Moves - Mario Wall Kick = B + B To perform a wall kick, jump toward the wall, and jump again as you hit it. Floating Power = Float up by pressing B repeatedly. Control his direction with the D-pad. When Mario gets a Power Flower, he becomes a balloon and can float to high places. Wings = Press up on the D-pad to descend, press down on the D-pad to ascend, and press left and right on the D-pad to turn left and right. When Mario gets Wings, he can take to the skies. Take off by performing a triple jump. ----- Yoshi ----- Yoshi is the faithful companion of Mario, and has accompanied him since he was a baby. But now, with his friend, his very kingdom in danger, does Yoshi have what it takes? Ratings - Yoshi ----- Power = (Out of ***) ----- Speed = ** (Out of ***) ----- Jump = *** (Out of ***) Special Moves - Yoshi Swallowing = Press A to swallow enemies and certain objects. Flutter Kick = Press and hold B. Fire Power = Press A to breath fire. Only possible when using a Power Flower. Eggs = Press R to lay an egg when an enemy is within Yoshi's mouth, or press A to spit out the swallowed enemy with deadly force. Laid eggs can be thrown with lethal force also. ----- Luigi ----- The somewhat bumbling brother of Mario is also on the scene, but is in the same troubled situation as Mario and Wario. Could Luigi's superior jumping skills be the key to saving Mushroom Kingdom? Luigi is ready to help do his part in saving the day! Ratings - Luigi ----- Power = * (Out of ***) ----- Speed = ** (Out of ***) ----- Jump = *** (Out of ***) Special Moves - Luigi Scuttle = Hold B. Backward Somersault = Press R, then B to perform a backwards somersault. Invisibility Power = When Luigi gets a Power Flower, he becomes invisible for a short time. When he's invisible, Luigi can run through enemies and many objects. Water Run = Press a direction on the D-pad while holding Y to run on water for a short time. This is done by running towards the water and jumping, then following the directions above. ----- Wario ----- The semi-evil Wario has feuded with Mario and pals in the past, but for now, he is just another of Bowser's victims. I'm sure he'd help out, if given the chance, and his overwhelming strength will certainly play a big role in the saving of Mushroom Kingdom. Ratings - Wario ----- Power = *** (Out of ***) ----- Speed = * (Out of ***) ----- Jump = * (Out of ***) Special Moves - Wario Wario Whack = Press A. Use this powerful move to break things the other character's can't. Metal Power = When Wario gets a Power Flower, he'll turn into metal. For a while, he'll be invincible to enemy attacks and able to walk on the sea floor. Swing and Fling = Press A, rotate on the D-pad, and then press A once more. Grabs enemies and swings them around, then throwing them. Only usable in VS mode. **************** Major Characters **************** -------------- Princess Peach -------------- The strong-willed Princess of Mushroom Kingdom that is constantly being kidnapped by Bowser and his minions. ------ Bowser ------ The King of Koopa's is almost always the evil mastermind behind many a scheme aimed at Mushroom Kingdom. Some believe he is trying to take Princess Peach's heart for his own, to no avail. ---- Toad ---- Princess Peach's helper and supposed protecter. Not quite up to par for the second job, as evidenced by the fact that Bowser didn't even care enough to throw him in a painting too. **************** Boss Characters **************** ------------ King Bob-Omb ------------ Boss of Bob-Omb Battlefield. Guy is easy to beat, regal stance irregardless. -------- Goomboss -------- The Goomba King. He's just as weak as his subjects. The fact that Bowser entrusted Mario to his care makes you wonder. ---------- King Whomp ---------- The Whomp King. I do say, all these kings are pretty pathetic. --- Eel --- I suppose he's a boss. Or at least, as close as it gets for his level. ------------ Chief Chilly ------------ Certainly the best boss so far, if only because of the slippery ice you're fighting on. --------- Ice Bully --------- Punch or kick him off a platform. It's not that hard. Easy boss. ---------- Fire Bully ---------- Do the same as with the Ice Bully. Not getting any harder, though the terrain is more deadly. -------- King Boo -------- Another inept king. Just punch him in the back and be done with it. ------- Wiggler ------- Besides Bowser, possibly the hardest boss. Still though, the plan is simple. Jump on his head three times, and be quick with the dodging. **************** Other Characters **************** --------------- Koopa the Quick --------------- Annoying koopa who you have to beat in two races. I wouldn't worry about him, besides crying at what a terrible character he is. -------------- Little Penguin -------------- A small child penguin that you have to return to his mother. You'll learn to hate his little cry. I know I do. -------------- Mother Penguin -------------- Featured twice, once, to ask you to bring her lost child to her. The other time you must race her. Mildly difficult, and very frustrating if you lack fine control. ------------ Pink Bob-Omb ------------ Much more helpful than Toad, Pink Bob-Omb will show you the location of a level's red coins, or activate a cannon for you. Great little things. ----------------- Klepto the Condor ----------------- Though hated by most, Klepto the Condor has a sort of rougish charm. You'll see him twice, no more, no less. ----- Ukiki ----- Worst character in the game. Worse than Koopa the Quick. He'll steal your cap when you catch him unless you find him at the top of the mountain. Then he'll (slightly) redeem himself by leading you to a star. Slightly. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 2.03 Basics ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Super Mario 64 DS has very simple game mechanics. Here they are. 1. Coins are your healing items and a good deal of them, 100 in fact, are your key to a star in each level. But how many coins are each coin worth? - Gold coin = 1 coin - Red coin = 2 coins - Blue coin = 5 coins 2. Sometimes though, you'll run across small floating hearts. Walk through them to regain health, for any amount of time you desire. 3. Every character has advantages and disadvantages. Go to each area of the Castle and beyond to find every secret the game has to offer. 4. Toads often have useful information for you related to your current situation, or if you lost your cap in a level, the lost cap. Sometimes, when you've hit certain milestones, Toad will reward you with a star. 5. There is no timer in Super Mario 64 DS, unlike previous Super Mario Bros. games, so there is no need to rush. Take your time and explore every crevice and corner. You never know when you'll find an extra life or batch of hidden coins. 6. Be sure to save after every achievement when prompted. Neglecting the saving process is a sure pathway to screaming at your poor DS. 7. Judge distances and know the terrain around you before confronting enemies. The camera is not always good enough to move around when in the heat of battle, so you might be blind while fighting. Knowing the area around you gives you an undefeatable edge. 8. Don't take needless risks. If you don't know whether you can make that jump to get those two coins hanging in the air without falling to your early demise, don't try. 9. Your speed, agility, and jumping ability will be tested far more than your power, so use Luigi or Mario when going to a new area, it's probable that Wario won't be needed except for in special circumstances. 10. It's not always a good idea to grab Power Flowers. Yes, they grant amazing abilities, but think to yourself whether or not the situation warrants the need. For example, if you want to fight four enemies with Mario for their coins, floating around them would hardly be of help. In that same situation, it could even be detrimental. 11. Choose your battles. Some enemies are more trouble than they're worth. Dying while fighting a measly snowman is hardly going to save Princess Peach, is it? 12. The manner in which you jump through a painting can play a large role in the level's terrain. Tick Tock Clock, for example, can either have all of the terrain moving, or perfectly still, depending on what time the clock showed when you entered. 13. If you're having trouble with a certain part of a level, consider changing your character to one that is more apt to deal with the problem you are encountering. 14. The Mushrooms that increase your size are interesting and fun, and can net you multiple extra lives, but can also be a hassle. Think to yourself whether or not the platform you're on can support a giant. 15. Lastly, don't let your frustration get you down. The Princess, and all of Mushroom Kingdom are depending on you. Can you really let them down? ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 2.04 Controls and Moves ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Controls -------- ************* Standard Mode ************* ------------ D-pad = Walk D-pad = Crawl D-pad + Y = Dash A = Talk, Read, Attack, Pick up, and Throw B = Jump, Swim B + R = Ground Pound X = Zoom camera L = Center camera R = Crouch Select = Controller modes Start = Pause ------------ ********** Touch Mode ********** ------------ D-pad = Not enabled. You'll have to unlock the other characters later on. Anyway, follow the path to the bridge and approach the castle door. You will be turned away because you don't have a key. Head back over the bridge to be stopped by Lakitu, who tells you a bunny has it. His location will appear on the map on the bottom touch screen (note that throughout the game hints and such will appear on this map, so keep an eye out for it). Go the where the bunny is located. Time to catch him! You'll have to swallow him with your tongue to catch him. Chase after him and try and get him, and if you are having a hard time try and stick out your tongue slightly ahead of him. Once you have the key, you can enter the castle, so do so. Welcome to the castle! This is the hub where all the other areas are located, so you will have to get used to here. For now you can only access one area, and thats on the left (the door without a number on). The numbers relate to how many stars are required to enter the area, so the more stars you get, the more areas you can access (leading to more potiental stars and so on). Anyway enter the left door, then up the steps and jump into the painting to enter Bob-Om Battlefield! =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= 3.02. Bob-Om Battlefield =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= ---------------- Area Information ---------------- Required Stars - None Location - In the Main Hall, left most door (up the small set of stairs). Cannon Buddy - Next to the cannon next to where you begin Cannon Locations - Next to where you begin; under the floating island; on the floating island; by the arrow sign post near the see-saw bridge; up the mountain Red Coin Buddy - Located on the path toward the first bridge ----------------------------------- Course 1 - Big Bob-Om On The Summit ----------------------------------- Welcome to the first course of the game! Talk to the red Bob-Om to the right then follow the path to the bridge. Ignore the Goombas, head up the bridge and head left down the path. Stick to the left when going past the Chain Chomp, then proceed over the see-saw bridge and up the steps. Head onward and go right at the sign and head through the caged area into a ditch with rolling balls. Ignore these and get out the other side and up the hill. Rolling balls will come down the hill so dodge them (it's possible to jump over them too). You will come across an area on the right with a Goomba and a red brick; if you need to get some health back, swallow and spit out the Goomba for a coin. Continue up the mountain side until you get past the sphere alcove on the left. Now keep going to the top (over several gaps and past some cannons) and collect the coins as you go. Toward the top is a heart; run into this as fast as you can to recover some life. At the top is King Boo peering out to the side. Approach him to start off the boss battle! He will throw Bob-Om's at you, so swallow them and spit them at him to hurt him. Stay away as he bounces around afterward, and then he will return to throwing the Bob-Om's at you. After a total of three hits, he's done for. Star number 1, done! Note that if you want you can move onto other stages as you have earned a star! This includes the top right room up the stairs (in the main hall) and the Whomp Fortress on the right side of the main hall. Remember to access more areas, unlock more stars! ---------------------------------------- Course 2 - Footrace With Koopa The Quick ---------------------------------------- Walk onward and talk to the tall Koopa. He asks you to get Mario to him if you are playing Yoshi or another character. Is so there is a Mario cap at the far end of the area next to the cannon (see the touch screen map) so grab it and head back here to start the race to the top of the mountain. This is rather easy, just follow the path up the bridge, over the see-saw, to the ditch and up the mountain path. As long as you keep running and don't get stopped by anything then you'll do this easily. If you are struggling then do long jumps (Jump + R) as they are infact faster than running, so try that. When you get to the top jump up the ledge (rather than going all the way round) and touch the flag pole to finish. -------------------------- Course 3 - 5 Silver Stars! -------------------------- The aim here is to collect all five of the silver stars in order to get the star. Pretty simple, huh? To make matters easier, they are all located on the map! Note that if you get injured when you are carrying stars you will drop one, so remember to pick it up afterward. 1 - Located next to the bridge near to where you begin. It's above the tree next to it, so climb up and jump off to collect! 2 - Attached to the tail of the chain chomp that is bouncing around the far right area (round the cannon, under the floating island). 3 - Go over the see-saw bridge and head left to the area of logs and Goombas. Kill one of the Goombas here for the star. 4 - If you lead on straight from the see-saw bridge (behind the arrow sign post) you will come across a bed of flowers, with the star in the middle. 5 - Head up the mountain side, and stop off at the first area on the right. Like star 3, it's inside one of the Goomba's so jump on one to get your final star. Once you have all five, then return to where you began the level where to the star will be located. -------------------------------- Course 4 - Big Bob-Omb's Revenge -------------------------------- Make your way back up the mountain to meet the King at the top. Note that you need to be either Mario, Luigi or Wario in this battle but if you are Yoshi then there's a Mario cap on the way up the mountain you can collect. Once you get there, talk to the King to start the battle. You have to run around behind the King, pick him up and throw him. Do that a total of three times to get the star. When running around him, get reasonably near (but no so he can grab you) and when you are round enough quickly go to his back, stop and pick him up (make sure you stop other wise you might leap forward) then throw him. Don't throw him over the edge either, it's classed as cheating. --------------------------------- Course 5 - Mario Wings To The Sky --------------------------------- You'll need to have unlocked Mario and the ? boxes for this level (get 16 stars and look into the light in the castle main hall to go to the ? switch area). Once you have met these two requirements, we can start the level. Activate the cannons in this level by talking to the cannon buddy next to the left cannon, then head straight ahead and open up the ? block to the right of the bridge. Grab the feather and head back to the first cannon, and fire out toward the floating island straight ahead. Land on it, and hit the ? block to renew the flying and enter the cannon here. See the five coin rings ahead of you? You need to collect all five coins in the center of each of these rings to get the star. Aim to get as many as you can by firing out the cannon, then swoop round and collect the rest via flying. If you are having trouble getting them (they are quite hard to get) then head back to the island and get them by cannon (remember to aim above each one). Keep renewing your flying status by getting feathers too. When you get all five, follow the star by it's location on the map. ------------------------------- Course 6 - Find The 8 Red Coins ------------------------------- Again you'll need to have unlocked Mario and the ? boxes so he can fly. Find the eight red coins to get the star. The Red Coin Buddy is located on the path toward the first bridge. 1 - Follow the path, up the bridge and jump the fence. The coin is above a rock on the left side of this area. 2 - To the left of the first bridge is a set of rotating platforms. The red coin is above here. 3 - You know where the Chain Chomp is located? Well the coin is above the central stump. Be quick to avoid Chompy boy. 4 - Go over the see saw and left to the area of stumps and trees. There are two red coins ready to be collected here. 5 - See above. 6 - Head toward the mountain, to the bridge leading through the caged walls. If you go under neath this bridge then there's a red coin and a 1-Up Green Mushroom. 7 - Head up the mountain until you reach the slope on the right side that leads down the base. Slide down here and grab the red coin as you go. 8 - Grab a feather out one of the ? blocks and use a cannon to get on to the floating island. The red coin is hovering above the tree. The star is located at the stump and tree area to the left after you come off the see saw bridge. ------------------------------------ Course 7 - Behind Chain-Chomp's Gate ------------------------------------ Head up the bridge and left to where Chain Chomp is located. Ground pound the stump he's chained to (jump above and press R) three times to release Chomp and give you access to the star. Make sure you have full health though as you may take a good battering from Chomp. ------------- 100 Coin Star ------------- Pretty much any course will do here, but why not Course 6 - Find The 8 Red Coins, eh? Try killing all the enemies (Goomba's and Bomb-Omb's are worth one coin a piece), under the first bridge, red coins (worth two regular coins each), smashing the red bricks, stomping on the wooden stumps (five each), up the mountain (lines of coins round the sides however none at the very top) and also the in air by the floating island (remember course 5?). All in all, not tricky at all. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= 3.03. Whomp's Fortress =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= ---------------- Area Information ---------------- Required Stars - 1 Area Location - Main Hall, Ground Floor; right hand side (next to stairs). Cannon Buddy - Next to the cannon Cannon Location - Next to the body of water Red Coin Buddy - Next to where you start. Course 4. Owl Location - Tree next to where you begin. Course 5 onward. --------------------------------- Course 1 - Chip Off Whomp's Block --------------------------------- Jump up the ledge and up the path. Stone blocks will push out of the walls so observe their patterns and proceed past them (I find it easiest to jump and run across them) then past the moving floors to the far side by jumping over them. Run under the Whomp and up the stairs past another to the top. Go right to the steps, and about halfway up start crawling (hold R while moving) so you don't awaken the Pirahna Plant. Or, you can just jump the corner. Once past, run over the collapsing bridge and grab the Mario cap (if you are Yoshi). Over the plank and wait for the platform to rotate to you, then run across to the middle. Wait again so you can cross over. The area on the left has some items of interest; smashing the block reveils a recovery heart, and climbing the pole nets you a 1-Up Green Mushroom. Proceed onward once you are done past the enemies and take the rotating platforms up to the top to face Whomp. This boss is fairly straight forward. Stand in front of him so he falls down to try and crush you; he will do a little shake and leap before he does it, so use this is a sign to move your arse out of the way. Once he is down, ground pound his back (jump above him and press R) to injure him. Do this a total of three times to get the star. ------------------------------------- Course 2 - To The Top Of The Fortress ------------------------------------- Head back to the top of the stage where Whomp was last time however in this course a fortress has been erected where you faced him. Go round to the lowest ledge and make your way round. There are some moving ones, so be patient. The last one will take you up the top to the star. ----------------------------------- Course 3 - Shoot Into The Wild Blue ----------------------------------- Make your way to the area's cannon. To reach it, either go round the edge of the level or jump up the ramp, backflip to the ledge above and head across the water. Talk to the Bob-Omb to activate it if you haven't already. Hop into the cannon. Your destination is the area below the tall pole ahead of you. It's a square area with the four columns around it. From here you can see the two foreground columns and one background column inbetween them. Aim so you will hit that column. Make sure you aim up too as you will dip as you fly so aim about a quarter of the way up the tall flag pole. Fire and you should smash into the back column. Now slide down the pole and collect the star! ----------------------------------------- Course 4 - Red Coins On The Floating Isle ----------------------------------------- You will need Mario for this one. You'll need to collect eight stars in order to get the star here. If you need a location of where the coins are on the map, then talk to the Bob-Omb Buddy next to where you start. I recommend you collect the following coins in the order they are listed - 1 - Go round the edges of the level to the far corner, where the Pirhana plants are hidden in the flower beds. A coin is situated in the middle of them, so dash and grab this one. 2 - Go up the ramp to the stone blocks that come out the wall. A coin is above the central block. 3 - Up the steps and past the thomps to the top. Now jump onto the thomp and backflip to collect the coin in the air. 4 - From the steps, continue to where the sleeping pirahna plant is. Crawl and collect the coin behind him. 5 - Just past that plant, and instead of going across the collapsing gray bridge you can go across the thin path against the wall. A coin is on here. 6 - The rotating bridge has coins when it rotates round the left side; one of these being a red coin. Step on and run to the middle then wait until it rotates round so you can grab it on the return. 7+8 - Head up to the fortress tower at the top. There is a plank at the edge of the area; wall kick this twice (NOT wall jump) by jumping into it and press A (the punch button) to connect you to the green islands out to the side. The final two coins are on here. Once you have collected all eight of the coins the star will appear near to where you start. If you finished with coins 7 and 8, then simply long jump back to the main area instead of going the long way back. ------------------------------------- Course 5 - Fall Onto The Caged Island ------------------------------------- Really easy one, this. Next to where you begin is a tree; climb it and an owl will fly out. Jump at him and hold down the B button to let him carry you off into the sky. Now keep holding B and direct him over to the cage island on the right side of the area (use both screens to ensure that you are over it) then release B to land. Enter the cage and collect the star. ------------------------------ Course 6 - Blast Away The Wall ------------------------------ Head to the cannon next to the water area (onto the nearest ledge, back flip up to the higher ledge then across the water). Aim right to where the rotating bridge is, and if you look at the wall to the right you should see that the corner is seperate (indicated by a line). Aim just above that to smash into it, revieling in the star. Head up to the rotating platform and drop down to get it. -------------------------------------- Course 7 - Switch Star Of The Fortress -------------------------------------- Head round the edges of the area to underneath the moving slats to find a red brick. Punch it to find the switch star - the star will be located round the other side of the area. Just quickly head clockwise round the edge of the area, ignoring the pirhanas and long jumping the gaps to make it well enough in time. If you are struggling then use long jumps (they are faster than running) or Luigi if you have him. ------------- 100 Coin Star ------------- I recommend going on Course 4 - Red Coins On The Floating Isle for this one as there are stacks of coins everywhere. Remember to get them from the Goomba's and Piranhas (jump on them whilst they sleep for five coins), ground pounding the wooden stumps, smashing bricks, and so on. Remember round the back of the area (down the slope from the cannon) is a blue coin switch, netting you an easy 20 coins. If you just go round the green edge of the area if should get 100 coins from that alone, so it should be dead easy to get the star here. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= 3.04. Jolly Roger Bay =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= ---------------- Area Information ---------------- Required Stars - 3 Location - Ground floor of the main hall. Far right, up the small stairs. Cannon Buddy - On one of the platforms on the right side of the area Cannon Location - In a rock in the water in front of where you start Red Coin Buddy - On the wooden walkways next to the ship. ------------------------------------- Course 1 - Plunder In The Sunken Ship ------------------------------------- Jump into the water and swim to the far side. Dive down to the ship at the bed and approach the enterance on the left side. Just before you enter an eel will come out. Ignore him, and enter. Inside, touch the chest at the bottom to lower the water level. Now head up the steps to the top where you can hit the yellow block and collect the star. ---------------------------------------- Course 2 - Can The Eel Come Out To Play? ---------------------------------------- Jump into the water, swim to the far end and dive down. There are alcoves dotted around the sides of the area, with the eel's head poking out one. Approach him to cause him to swim out into the area with the star tagged onto his tail. Basically you just have to swim into it to get the star. You can get it straight away when he comes out if you are quick enough. If you need oxygen then either grab coins on the bed or surface to get air that way. ------------------------------------- Course 3 - Treasure In The Ocean Cave ------------------------------------- Jump into the water and swim to the far end and dive down. Go through the passage on the left (check the map) to reach a cave. Look where the star is on the map and now run through this area straight to the star as there are falling rocks and Goomba's lotted around this cave that you'll want to avoid. When you reach the chests, then open them in this order (1 is the chest closest to the wall) - 1 2 3 4 You will now recieve the star. ------------------------------------ Course 4 - Blast To The Stone Pillar ------------------------------------ You have to access the cannon for this one, which is straight ahead from where you begin (in a rock in the water). To activate it then head over to the platforms on the right side of this area; swim out to in-between the platforms and jump onto the floating wooden platform, then head on to the one closest to the cannon where the Cannon Buddy is. Get in the cannon. If you look on the map, the star is located straight ahead. It's on a platform just round the corner (you cannot see it) next to the spires. Aim above the left most spire so you land and hang onto it, so you can then jump off onto the platform and claim the star. This might take several goes at getting right and when you jump off try and hold the direction and jump to ensure you don't fall short of landing. --------------------------------------- Course 5 - Red Coins On The Ship Afloat --------------------------------------- You know the drill here, collect all eight red coins in order to get the star. The Red Coin Buddy is located on the wooden walkways next to the ship. 1 - There is a small spire to the right (by the platforms on the right side). The coin is on top of here. 2 - On the right side of the boat - to get here I recommend getting on the platforms on the right side of the this area and going across the wooden walkways. 3 - On the left side of the boat. 4 - On the left side of the boat. 5 - Dive down at the deep far area and it's in a clam at the bottom. 6 - Dive down in the central area and it's in a clam there. 7 - Dive down in the central area and it's in a clam there. 8 - On the right side of the area, next to the platforms in a clam underwater. The star will appear on the left side of the boat, where coins 4 and 5 were. --------------------------------- Course 6 - Switch Star Of The Bay --------------------------------- You will have needed to unlock Luigi for this one (to either start as or to unlock his cap in this level). Dive in the water and head to the cave area through the tunnel at the far end. When you get there, run around the area so all the rock structures have fallen and take out all the Goomba's. Now head to the enterance of the cave and opposite is a ? block. Grab the Power Flower that's inside and head down the cave toward the cave. On the way there is a switch star on the right somewhere, so activate that and now get to and through the cage at the far end. Do some long jumps to get you there faster, to ensure you get there before the timer runs out. --------------------------------- Course 7 - Through The Jet Stream --------------------------------- You'll need to use Wario for this course. Dive into the drink and head through the end tunnel and out into the cave. Run ahead and use the ? block to get a power flower, making Wario metal so he can walk under water. Head back through the tunnel to the jet stream on the bed, where the star is. ------------- 100 Coin Star ------------- I would recommend any of the courses (apart from the first) for this star. A great source of coins is the blue coins on the water; activate the switch near to where you start then smash the red bricks behind you for a shell to use so you can go across the water and grab 40 coins worth! Other sources include the red coins (worth 2 each), the Goomba's at the start and in the cave, lines of coins underwater and on the right side of the area, the wooden walkways next to the ship, and around the jet stream. As long as you manage to get the blue coins the rest are easy to find. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= 3.05. Cool, Cool Mountain =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= ---------------- Area Information ---------------- Required Stars - 3 Location - Castle's main hall, left side. Door with the 3 star mark on it. Cannon Buddy - At the bottom area take the lift up and get off at the platform halfway up. Cannon Location - There are two cannons at opposite sides of the large gap at the bottom of the area. Red Coin Buddy - Bottom of the slope, against the wall (course 4) Owl Location - At the bottom of the area, at the far left tree. ---------------------------- Course 1 - Slip Slidin' Away ---------------------------- Jump into the cottage in front of you via the chimney. You will be led to an icy slide course and your aim is to reach the end. Try and keep as central as possible when sliding down (often the coins show the best route) and you can speed up and slow down by holding up and down respectively. Note that at the end before you stop there is a thin bridge of ice cubes you have to go over, so keep to the coin line so you don't fall off accidently. There is a really handy shortcut you can take however; about a third of the way down when there is a light blue wall on your right, there is a vertical line of coins leading into the wall. Follow the line and you will go through the wall to a secret route, which leads straight to the bottom and you'll net several 1-Up Green Mushrooms as you go too. Once you reach the bottom, exit the cottage via the door and collect the star. ---------------------------- Course 2 - Li'l Penguin Lost ---------------------------- You have to be either Mario, Luigi or Wario here as Yoshi cannot carry things. The aim of this course is to return the baby penguin to it's mother. Naturally the baby is at the top of the area and the mother at the bottom. Climb onto the cottage chimney then onto the ledge above, to find the baby penguin (he sounds like a car unlocking over and over). Grab him (A button) and keep hold of him until you find the mother. Head left and go allll the way down the slope. At the bottom, progress past the red bricks and the snow man head to the bridge. There are two jumping snow men on here and you'll have to walk under them as they jump. Rotate the camera to the side so you get a clearer picture of distance and such. At the other side go down the same bridge and follow this path to the ground, where the mother will be. Stand in front of her to get the star. --------------------------- Course 3 - Big Penguin Race --------------------------- This is the same as course 1, exhept you are racing against a penguin. Enter the cottage and talk to him to begin the race. You'll need to hold up to speed up here to get the advantage, and take the insides of the corners to cut a bit of distance. And you can't take the shortcut because he'll know. I recommend that you take the first sections quickly and the final few turns at a normal pace. Remember that thin ice cube bridge at the end too. If you get to the bottom first, you get the star. ----------------------------------- Course 4 - Frosty Slide For 8 Coins ----------------------------------- Collect all eight of the red coins in this course to get the star. Note that you must play as Yoshi here (for his fire breathing skills). The Red Coin Buddy is at the bottom of the slope, against the wall. 1 - Head up the chimney and onto the ledge above (where the baby penquin is). To the right is an ice cube containing a red coin. Head left and step down to reach a camp fire; swallow the flame and spit it out at the ice cube to melt the ice, allowing you to get the red coin. 2 - Now start sliding down toward the bottom, but stop at the bridge. Jump off the right side and slide down the blue wall to reach a ledge. Here swallow the fire and melt the red coin ice cube. 3 - Jump off at the left side, and you will be at the bottom of the slope. Go round toward the slope's end and against the wall is the Red Coin Buddy and a red coin. 4 - In the area with the red bricks and the snowman head, drop down to the ledge below it and head toward the bridge to reach the edge. Rotate the camera 180 to see a ledge just off the edge here, with a red coin on. 5 - Head up and cross the jumping snowmen bridge. Instead of going down at the end stay on this left ledge, where the coin is on the end of the broken bridge just ahead. 6 - Head down to the bottom area (where the mother penquin is located). On the far left next to the edge are several trees, with the far one having a red coin above it. 7 - To the right of the frozen pond is a set of bridges set in a cave like section. The red coin is there. 8 - On the far right of this bottom area. It's hidden around the corner. Once you have collected all eight of the coins then the star will appear on the other side of the broken bridge half way up (see coin 5). Long jump over this bridge to reach it. ---------------------------------- Course 5 - Snowman's Lost His Head ---------------------------------- Head up to the baby penguin ledge and drop down the left to reach a platform with a snowball on it. Talk to it (it's actually a snowman body) and then quickly head down the slope. The body will fall you. Head down to the bottom and go to the snowman head, where the body will add it's self to the head and give you the star. Make sure you stay ahead of the rolling body and that you finish off at the head otherwise at the bottom of the slope it will just roll off the edge of the area. ---------------------------------- Course 6 - Mario's Super Wall Kick ---------------------------------- As the name suggests, you'll need to be Mario for this level. Head all the way down the bottom of the area (where the mother penguin is) by either taking the slope or using the warp (from the start go right to the broken bridge and stand still to be warped to the bottom). Now you'll need to activate the cannon on the left of this area. Next to the cannon is a lift on the edge. Ride it to the island half way and talk to the Cannon Buddy. Long Jump back and use the cannon, and aim to land on the tree at the other side. Head round the corner and across the thin path, avoiding the enemies as you go. Long jump the gap and head up the ledge and right. Wall jump here on to the upper area and head to the other side. Now wall jump off the back wall (not the left wall) and as you jump hold right so you land on the above area. This is fairly tricky to pull off so keep trying. Once you get up, the star is yours for the taking. --------------------------------------------- Course 7 - Switch Star Of Cool, Cool Mountain --------------------------------------------- You'll be needing Wario for this course. Head down to the bottom of the area (use the broken bridge warp on the right) then head to the lift up to the platform mid way. Here activate the switch star and jump back to land, then ground pound the frozen pond so you can get the star. ------------- 100 Coin Star ------------- Although most of the courses are the same, you may as well choose Course 7 - Switch Star Of Cool, Cool Mountain as the warp is active here (go right from the start and stand on the end of the broken bridge to be taken to the bridges at the very bottom of the area - do the same here to be taken back to the top). This allows you to go to and from these two areas easier. Anyway you can get 77 coins in the cottage ice slide area (so going here is pretty essential). Also try smashing the red bricks, the red coins (worth two each), killing enemies, taking the slide round the edge of the area down amoung other coins dotted around the area. Nothing too hard here. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= 3.06. Big Boo's Haunt =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= ---------------- Area Information ---------------- Required Stars - N/A (Mario, Luigi or Wario needed) Location - You must be either Mario, Luigi or Wario to enter this area. In the castle's main hall are two brown doors either side of the stars. This leads to a corridor, leading to the basement and courtyard. A ghost will be in this corridor waiting for you so follow him out the back. Head to the far left corner to the ghost larger than the others (look at him and he has an object inside him) so punch him when he's solid to release the object. Touch this object to enter the area. Cannon Buddy - N/A Cannon Location - N/A Red Coin Buddy - Ground Floor, top right corner room. Course 4. ----------------------------- Course 1 - Go On A Ghost Hunt ----------------------------- Here you need to find all the ghosts and take their blue coins. GHOSTBUSTERS! Enter the mansion ahead of you then enter the first door on your left. Head straight to the corner and enter the door to the next room. Here, dodge the books and chairs until two ghosts enter the room; punch them from behind (that is when they are solid) and take the blue coins they leave behind. Leave the room and enter the next door (left, far wall). Here avoid the eye and kill the ghost. Exit, enter the next room along. Walk toward the camera and across the collapsing bridge to the next ghost. Exit via the door on the left here, where the final ghost is. He is at the ledge on the back end of the room so jump over there and take him out. Once you have defeated all the ghosts, exit back out into the main hall to confront Big Boo. Big Boo, like his smaller friends can be injured by punching him when he his solid. So run away from him and get around to the side or back and punch him. As you injure him he gets smaller and faster. It takes three hits in total to take him down. After two hits he is really fast so run away from him as best you can and rotate round and punch. You may dive at him if you like (running and pressing A) but again only when he's solid. If he touches you then you lose 2 points of health, so you can only get hit 3 times before you die. If you are about to get touched then stare at him to make him invisible so you can quickly escape. Just stay focused and you will prevail. Once he's defeated he will leave a star on the balcany above; stand on the central metal grating to rise steps up. ---------------------------------------- Course 2 - Ride Big Boo's Merry-Go-Round ---------------------------------------- When you begin head into the outhouse to the left of where you begin. Take the lift down and enter the door at the end of the corridor. Do the same again and then head left, up the right ledge and through the door on the right to enter the Merry-Go-Round. The floor will spin around while ghosts appear from the paintings; there is also a painting that spits fire, so avoid that as best as you can. This is pretty much like the last course; eliminate all the ghosts and then Big Boo will appear. Again three hits will take him down, so act fast and punch / dive when the timing is right. If you are about to get touched then stare at him to make him invisible so you can quickly escape. After three hits the star is yours. -------------------------------------- Course 3 - Secret Of The Haunted Books -------------------------------------- Enter the mansion and head up the stairs to the balcany above. Head through the door on the left (on the left wall, that leads to a long room shaped like an N on the map). This is the libary. Run round to the other side where there are three light green books sticking from the shelf. Punch them back in the following order - 1 3 2 The shelf will now move away. Head through the door and collect the star! ------------------------------- Course 4 - Seek The 8 Red Coins ------------------------------- You must play as Mario in this course (in order to use the Power Flower). You guessed it, the aim here is to collect all 8 red coins hidden in the mansion. They are both dotted throughout both of the floors. The Red Coin Buddy is located on the Ground Floor, in the top right corner room. The coins are located - 1 - GROUND FLOOR - Head into the first room on the left, and the red coin is by the piano. 2 - GROUND FLOOR - In the next room there are coins above each of the two bookshelves. 3 - GROUND FLOOR - See the one above. 4 - GROUND FLOOR - Bottom right corner room, on the ledge. 5 - FIRST FLOOR - From the top of the stairs, head into the room on your left (to the right of the library) where the floor is made of mesh. The coin is on the other side of the room, so either jump the gap or walk around it to get there. 6 - FIRST FLOOR - Head into the next room on the right, where the coffins are. Approach the closest coffin on the right, and it will rise so you can collect it. 7 - FIRST FLOOR - Head into the right most room. Make your way around the central bookcase and run across to the red coin (left of the door) so you avoid the trap door. 8 - BALCONY - Head through the door out to the balcony, where there is ? block containing a Power Flower. Collect it and rise to the center of the ceiling for the eighth and final coin. The star will appear on the left side of the balcony. ---------------------------- Course 5 - Big Boo's Balcony ---------------------------- Head into the mansion, up the stairs and into the right most room. Head into the corner and hit the ? block for a power flower. Rise up and land on the ledge above (press R to land) then head through the door. Head through the door on the right to reach Big Boo (you may notice the Luigi painting here - go through it now or later to rescue the green machine). On the balcony you have to face Big Boo... again! It's exactly the same as the other times, three strikes and he is out so I'm sure you'll have this covered easily. The only problem is the lack of room on this area, so bide your time until you can get a good first punch in to make him smaller. Look at him so you can escape if things turn nasty. Once he is down he will leave the star on the roof, so use the nearby ? block (backflip into it) and use the power flower to float up and collect it. ---------------------------------------- Course 6 - Eye To Eye In The Secret Room ---------------------------------------- Note that you will need to play as Luigi in order to do this level. Although there is a cap on the ground floor you may as well as rescue him via the painting on the second floor (see the later section if you need tips). Head into the mansion, up the stairs and into the right most room. Head into the corner and to get on the ledge above, back flip and float on to it. Head through the door and straight out into the balcony, and use the ? block (backflip) and collect the Power Flower to become invisible. Head back inside and go through the painting in the bottom left corner. Wait until you return to normal and when the eye has locked onto you, run around the eye until it implodes and gives you the star. Job done. -------------------------------------- Course 7 - Switch Star In The Basement -------------------------------------- You'll need Wario for this one. Head into the basement (go left into the shed, down lift, through the two doors) and smash the black brick block in the corner to reviel the switch star. Step on it, and the star will be located all the way round on the other side of hte fence. You can make it in time as long as you long jump all the way there (quicker, you see). If you are having trouble then there's a Mario cap in the far opposite corner, who's faster than Wario. ------------- 100 Coin Star ------------- For this star I recommend going on any course bar the first, as you'll want to be checking on the balcony level. Sweep the outside of the mansion for enemies and coins, then head inside for both floors, the attic, the roof and the basement (the ghosts in the Merry-Go-round, anyone?) if you need to. Also don't forget about red coins (worth 2) and the eyes and ghosts (worth 5). =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= 3.07. Hazy Maze Cave =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= ---------------- Area Information ---------------- Required Stars - 12 Location - Basement. It has it's own room, to the right of where Lethal Lava Land. Red Coin Buddy - Top right area, next to where the working elevator is. Secret Star - There's a secret star to be had in this level. You know the underground lake? Head there. --------------------------------------- Course 1 - Swimming Beast In The Cavern --------------------------------------- Head down the left fork and long jump the gap. Through the door and head straight over to the green hill on the other side (head round right) and avoid the boulders as you go up. Go through the door and step onto the blue and black square to be taken down to the area below. Head down the hill and swim over to the island in the middle of this area. From here long jump over onto the creatures back (his location is represented as a Wario cap on the map) and grab the cap off his head. Head back onto the island and punch the builder for the star. ---------------------------------- Course 2 - Elevate For 8 Red Coins ---------------------------------- Head down the right fork and avoid the enemies, pits and fire to reach the door at the end. Slide down the left pole to reach the bottom to this area. To start, head over to the bottom left corner and up the steps to the working elevator and the red coin buddy. To use the working elevator just step on the arrow in which you would like it to take you, and it will do that. Note that if you stay off it for long enough it will return to where it came from. Anyway take it to the center of the area, so you go to the red bricks. Smash the closest two for coins (1,2) and the third is at the far left corner ledge (3). Now jump off and back to the working platform, but instead long jump to the opposite ledge and climb the pole up. Stand on the platform to be taken around a set route; smash the red brick on the way for a coin (4), stand on the right (5), jump over the arch (6) and collect the final two on the ledge at the right (7,8). You can collect the star at the centre of the area on the ground. ------------------------------------ Course 3 - Metal-Head Wario Can Move ------------------------------------ Remember the Underground Lake in Course 1? Well head there as Wario (take the left folk, straight over and up boulder hill, down lift) and use the ? block as you enter to turn metal. Head down the ramp and follow the path under water to a ! switch. Exit the water and head through the door you just opened. Long jump the two gaps to reach the star. ------------------------------------ Course 4 - Navigating The Toxic Maze ------------------------------------ You'll need Wario for this one; head down the right fork and in the Elevator Area, head down the pole and into the left door to enter the toxic maze. Touching the toxic mist will hurt you so you'll need to either stay on higher ground or become metal. Next to the line of coins is a hole, so drop down and quickly head to higher ground here and dodge the shy guy's attack. Quickly head to the corner and use the ? block for a power flower so you can become metal, this avoiding getting injured. Now go right and up the ledge (where the blue coin switch is), go left and restock on your metal power via the ? block here. Go round the corner and there will be a ledge high up on the left, with a door. Avoid the pot holes and backflip up to this ledge, and follow the passage through to a lift. Up the lift is your star. ------------------------------------ Course 5 - A-Maze-Ing Emergency Exit ------------------------------------ Again you'll need Wario for this one (head down the right fork and in the Elevator Area head down the pole and into the left door to enter the toxic maze). Drop down the hole and quickly head to higher ground here and dodge the shy guy's attack. Quickly head to the corner and use the ? block for a power flower so you can become metal, this avoiding getting injured. Keep taking lefts now until you see a ledge with a door above you. Back flip up to the ledge, through the door and up the lift at the end of the coridoor. You'll be above the boulder area. Jump and hang onto the mesh above (hold B) and swing down the right path and drop down onto the ledge, where this star is located. ---------------------------------- Course 6 - Watch For Rolling Rocks ---------------------------------- Make sure you are Wario for this one (there is a Wario cap down the right fork if you need it). Head down the left folk and round the edge to the boulder hill. Instead keep going round and punch the black brick for a mushroom. In your now huge form, go up boulder hill and into the boulders until a star appears from one of them. Good stuff. ---------------------------------- Course 7 - Underground Switch Star ---------------------------------- Once again, Wario is your man. Head down the right fork, through the door and down the pole into the area below. In the far opposite corner (top right) is a black brick. Smash it to get the switch star. Step on it, and the star is found on the ledge opposite where the work elevator is. So long jump to the steps and head up to the work elevator, on to that and long jump over and grab the stars. It's important you long jump as it's faster than running. As long as you do that this switch star is a piece of cake. ------------- 100 Coin Star ------------- You've had a fairly easy ride with 100 Coin Star's upto now, however here you'll need to get most of the coins you can get. Remember to get every enemy, smash every brick (it's helpful that you are Wario here so you can do, remember his cap is on a Goomba on the right fork) and to explore everywhere. You can try any stage bar the first (as like a lot of the other areas). Here's a brief run down of every room, in the order that I would recommend taking them in. Start - Explore both forks, getting all the spiders (3 coins) and Goomba's (1 coin a piece). There are coins on the thin ledge on the right fork and remember to smash the wooden crate ahead as you start. Take the right folk door. Elevator Area - Get all the red coins (16 there), all the Goombas spider and the eye and smash all the bricks. Enter the first left door to the Hazy Maze Cave. Hazy Maze Cave - Coins before you enter, when you do get to higher ground then the ? block so you can protect yourself from the haze. Up the ledge and use the blue coin switch for 8 blue coins (return down the ledge, right and back flip to the second exit). Defeat all the enemies by running into them as metal Wario. Now leave via the second exit (left most one, to above the boulder hill). Boulder Hill - Assuming you are at the top, swing on the mesh to the right for coins, then to the left ledge and drop down below. Get the spider and the bat if you can, and head up boulder hill where there are coins on the left. Head through the door and grab the coins around the ! block on the left, then down the lift. Underground Lake - Become metal Wario and touch the Goombas on the ramp here to get two coins a piece. Get another power flower from the ? block and head into the lake and activate the red ! switch to open the door. The spider that leaps out of the pit in here is worth another 3 coins. Finally, head back to the lake and onto the central island where there are coins around the rock. You should get the coins if you follow that path, and assuming you get at least two of the blue coins fron the maze. If after that you don't have enough, say only a couple to go then search everywhere for the last few, otherwise restart and ensure you get all the enemies and as many blue coins from the maze as possible. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= 3.08. Lethal Lava Land =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= ---------------- Area Information ---------------- Required Stars - 12 Location - Basement, in-between Shifting Sand Land and Hazy Maze Cave. Cannon Buddy - N/A Cannon Location - N/A Red Coin Buddy - N/A ----------------------------- Course 1 - Boil The Big Bully ----------------------------- You have to reach the star on the map. The route as you can see takes you through platforms in an S shape. You can cut a little of this out by turning around, long jumping to the island and then over to the crescent to end up by the Bowser Sliding Puzzle. This might be a little hard to pull off for some folks, so I'll write for the normal route. Head down this path and over the gap then through the archway. Follow the arrow stripe and when you reach the Bully go left and over the suspension bridge and just head straight past the eye enemy. Head round the corner to the Bowser Sliding Puzzle - stay away from the missing piece as best as you can and progress onward and past the bullies. By the way if you want to dispose of a bully then punch him off the edge and into the lava. At the flame platform, either follow the direction of the flames and take the East exit or jump over the flames as it comes to you. Now just head to the arena ahead where the Big Bully is. Treat the Big Bully like the small bullies and punch him when he approaches you. A good idea is to run away and he should miss you and stop at the edge. Now punch him off the edge. If you manage to get knocked off, there are coins you can collect to recover energy. Once he's in the drink the star will appear on the ledge North of here, so head up the collapsing steps quickly and grab it. ---------------------------- Course 2 - Bully The Bullies ---------------------------- Again, head to the star that's on the map. Head onward, over the gap, through the archway and to the ledge where the bully is. You'll be going right this time. Either go via the fire mesh platform or long jump over to the grey platforms next to the volcano, then onto the grey strip on the right. Head around the M platform, then onto the grey squares. To progress onto the area where the bullies are, wait until the lava has subsided then run and jump over; you should just make it and hang on. If you fall short then there are coins here anyway. You have to knock three regular bullies into the lava here. This is actually quite hard, I would advise to keep your distance and to try and lure one to the edge then punch him off. If you get ganged on you'll most likely land in the lava. After the Big Bully will arrive so you'll have to take care of him too. If you are having mega troubles in this course then use Wario, as he doesn't get bashed far and his punch will knock them *flying*. Anyway once you defeat the Big Bully, the star is all yours. --------------------------------------- Course 3 - 8-Coin Puzzle With 15 Pieces --------------------------------------- This course is pretty easy. You know the Bowser Sliding Puzzle? Head there. A good short cut is turning around, long jumping to the island and then over to the crescent to end up by the Bowser Sliding Puzzle. Anyway 8 red coins are on here, so just run and grab them all. Avoid the moving gap if you can but if you fall just try and land back on the puzzle safely and continue. The star will appear in the far right corner. ------------------------------ Course 4 - Red-Hot Log Rolling ------------------------------ Not exactly a cake walk, this. Head over the gap, through the archway and then right. At the volcano go right to the two gray strips; take the right one so you head West, where there is a small arena with two Bullies on. Drop down onto the mesh platform next to it and ride it over to the other side, avoiding the fire spirts as you go. At the other side head onto the log. Now turn the camera so it's side on, and run away so the log moves over to the ledge at the otherside. This is pretty tricky to get a hang of, try and maintain a steady pace and don't rush yourself otherwise you'll fall off. Stay in the middle and if you are slipping then jump back to the middle. When you get to ther other side, take the walkway down to the star. --------------------------------------- Course 5 - Hot-Foot-It Into The Volcano --------------------------------------- Head over the gap, through the archway and take the right path, to the square platforms. There is a volcano on your left, so head onto it's moving outcircle. When the volcano stops erupting, jump onto it and down the mouth to reach the next area. Inside, follow the path ahead to the outside edge and take the path up. When you reach the bully, note that the ledge after has a trap (something will come out of the wall) so take care and once it's fallen, continue. Progress past the floating ledges, the two fire spirts and the bully and then ascend a pole. Ignore the next pole and grab the star ahead. ----------------------------- Course 6 - Inside The Volcano ----------------------------- Head into the volcano again. When you enter, turn around and go across the islands in the lava to a platform. Ride it up and step onto the next platform, to be taken to a pole. Climb this pole, and the next, to reach the very top of the area, where the star is laid out right in front of you. Could it get any easier? ------------------------------- Course 7 - Flaming Silver Stars ------------------------------- Head over the gap and at the archway, instead of going through head past and use the ! block to get a Green Shell. Ride it. Now there are 5 silver stars on this map, their locations can be found on the touch screen map... the route that I recommend you take it clockwise; so head North, through the gap and right round to the one of the island (with the eye). Continue north to a semicircle ledge, where the star is on top (you may have to jump to get onto to top). Drop down the otherside, and head West past the bully platforms. There is cresent island located inbetween the volcano and fire platform in the corner (NE of the Bowser Puzzle), where the next star is. Now head to the North West corner to the corner cresent for the forth. The fifth and last is to the South of the Bowser Puzzle, near to where you begin. Once you get all five the star will appear at the south west corner, behind where you begin. If you followed the path I desribed then it's just a leap over the lava to collect it. ------------- 100 Coin Star ------------- Choose the last course, as Wario. Head past the archway to the ! block, and knock out the shell. Quickly punch the black brick block and activate the blue coin switch, then ride the shell. The line goes south, around through that first gap, under the suspension bridge and over the arch platform for about 45 easy coins. For the rest, try killing all the enemies (the Bullies and running around the eyes for a blue coin each), the Bowser Puzzle; 16 for the red coins, and if you wait on there (not on the side, on an actual piece so it solves more coins will appear, and just general coins around the level. This should do more than enough, but if for some reason you are short head into the volcano where will be more from enemies and such. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= 3.09. Shifting Sand Land =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= ---------------- Area Information ---------------- Required Stars - 12 Location - Basement; to the left of Lethal Lava Land. Go round the corner and the dead end ahead of you is really a hidden wall to this world. Cannon Buddy - By the water in the corner. Cannon Location - The opposite side of where the buddy is, in the dark quick sand area with the walkways (right in the corner). Red Coin Buddy - N/A ---------------------------------------- Course 1 - In The Talons Of The Big Bird ---------------------------------------- For this you need to be Mario. Head round the corner and get onto the stone structure using a triple jump, and retrieve the feather from the red ! block. Now you are in flying mode, triple jump off the top of the structure to begin flight and head to the star on the map (which should be moving next to the pyramid). A valture will be carrying it in it's talons, but all you will have to do is fly into the star. Once you have done that, the star will be located on the other side of the pyramid. Simply fly over (or over the pathways in the corner if you've lost your feather power) and grab the star. Easy! ----------------------------------- Course 2 - Shining Atop The Pyramid ----------------------------------- As the name suggests, you should make your way to the top of the pyramid. Head round the corner and past the stone structure to the dark quick sand area in the corner. Here you must make your way over the walkways to the left corner (where the small body of water recides - check your map) by avoiding the moving cubes. Although you can skip corners by jumping over then avoid falling into the quick sand as it ensures an instant death... the cubes are quite easy to avoid, and one of the sides has a hole in which you can reside in if you stand there at the right time. Anyway once you are by the water in the corner, head left and round to the other side of the pyramid avoiding the vulture as you go - if you are wearing a cap then he'll try steal it from you, so either run away or jump on his noggin to temporarly dazzle him. If he gets then just jump into him to get it back. If you can't find him chances are he will be above one of the red pillars (check your map) which can be scaled by running up the side. Otherwise just grab another cap or move on. By the face of the pyramid is a whirlwind, which you should try and avoid but if you get sucked up then don't threat; you can just glide your way down to the ledges at the side of the pyramid anyway. Avoid the doorway and head anti-cockwise up round the side. Avoid hitting the sides or you'll slide down into the quick sand. Ignore the black spot and shy guy on the way up, and the star will be there easy for grabbing at the top. ------------------------------------- Course 3 - Inside The Ancient Pyramid ------------------------------------- Make your way to the pyramid enterance. Either head all the way around anti- clockwise, where the enterance is by the sandstorm, or as you begin is a bouncy box. Stand by it so you are facing to the left of the fence and grab on to be bounced around it and in front of the enterance. When you get inside, head on and right around to the back past the Goombas and the Thomp to the ramp at the back. Continue the path around the wall, over the Thomp below and up the pole to the floor above. Climb across using the over head frame, up the corner and sprint down the path and hide in the alcove as the roller passes by. Continue up the moving steps to the next floor, past the buzzers and shimmy across the thin ledge. Up the pole, past the bouncing Thwomp (may be easier to jump over), up the ledge for the Star. ----------------------------------------- Course 4 - Stand Tall on the Four Pillars ----------------------------------------- You have to me Mario for this course. There are four pillars around the pyramid, that you have to run up the side and collect the coin at the top. Run around the mound where the first is on the left; you can just simply run up to it and keep going to get on top. The next one is the trickest of all as its in the middle of the quick sand. Either find a feather, or use the nearby sand storm when it gets close to the pillar to launch you high enough just so you can land on the base, so you can then run up to the top. From here long jump on to the box area in the corner, and round to the next two pillars and collect their coins. The top of the pyramid will now come off (you can tell as particles are flying, and that it's shown on the map). Get on top of the pyramid and drop inside; easist way is to use the bouncy box by this last pillar straight to the top. Inside you'll land in a cage and will be lowered down to the ground. At the bottom jump into the alcove and punch the brick and go down the ramp to drop down to a platform. Jump on to the rock pedistal ahead to start a boss fight with two hands. This is real easy; when it begins one hand will rise and the other open, so quickly run to the open hand (left one to begin with) and punch it. They will reset, then the right hand will open. Do this three times to each to get the Star. ------------------------------ Course 5 - Tox Box Switch Star ------------------------------ You'll need to be Wario for this one. Make your way to the far right corner where the dark paths reside in the quick sand. Head over the long path at the start, go right, long jump over to the island slab and across again to the dark brick. Ground pound it to make a Star appear in the corner on the other side. To get there quickly, just long jump in a straight line there when you need to make it in more than enough time. ------------------------- Course 6 - Pyramid Puzzle ------------------------- Enter the pyramid (again, use the bouncy box at the start to bounce to the left of the fence) and head all the way to the top of the pyramid, where the third star was. You'll find some silver stars on platforms going down; grab the first on the steps, drop down to the lower platform for the second and look to the left to see another on a platform fairly across. Ensure you meet the jump for the third, drop down to the sand path and follow it through to get the last two and for the Star at the end of it. -------------------------------------- Course 7 - Free Flying For 8 Red Coins -------------------------------------- You'll need to be Mario for this (or at least get his cap for the flying part). Turn around and run all the way to the edge for the first coin (1) and make your way back and head out to the stone ledge. Underneath are two bricks at opposite end, the far one containing a red coin (2). Head to the dark paths in the quicksand, where if you head out and turn left you'll see a coin on the right path. Jump over and collect it (3) then head to the far corner where the water is, with a coin at the bottom (4). The last four at in the air, so head across the dark paths in the quicksand to the far corner, where a red ! block is and a cannon. Use these to get into the air, where coins (5-8) are around the pyramid. The star is located on the stone ledge near the start of the level. ------------- 100 Coin Star ------------- Choose course 7, where the red coins double up to make 16 if you get them all; but the four ground ones make an easy 8 anyway. Bob-Ombs and Goombas have 1 each, Shy Guys two and Wrigglers 5 (well one blue coin; just punch away all the segments). Check out the stone ledge near the start for the bricks there, top of the pillars for single coins. When you are done head into the pyramid for more! On the left as you enter is a Blue Coin switch, where four blue coins will appear ahead for an easy 20 coins! =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= 3.10. Dire, Dire Docks =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= ---------------- Area Information ---------------- Required Stars - 30 Location - Basement, head into the left star door Cannon Buddy - None Cannon Location - None Red Coin Buddy - Near pillar in corner of Bowser's Submarine room ----------------------------- Course 1 - Board Bowser's Sub ----------------------------- Dive down deeper into the water, and head through the tunnel to the large area at the other end. When you get there, come out at side of the sub and onto the side ledge. Now you can either activate the red switch and use the path to climb on board and get the star, or use a power flower from the ? block and float your way to the star. Either way once you get the star, you can access Bowser Battle Two - Bowser In The Fire Sea by going in the hole in front of the level enterance. -------------------------------- Course 2 - Chests In The Current -------------------------------- Easy star, just look around underwater for the three chests. Don't go to the sub area though, that's not the right place. You do have to open these in a specific order though, so here it is. First, look for a chest nearby a clamshell. How do you activate this chest? Swim through it. Yep, that's it. Next one is hiding by a patch of seaweed. Last one is next to the whirlwind, so do be careful to avoid that, and those pesky sharks that are happening by in the area. Collect the star once you're done. ------------------------------------- Course 3 - Pole-Jumping For Red Coins ------------------------------------- For this star, you'll have had to beat Bowser from this level's Bowser battle, Bowser In The Fire Sea. If you haven't, you'll find this course quite a bit imposssible. To the point, this is a red coin course, so let's get going. First coin you can get is on the small platform you can get by hitting the red switch and climbing the far away blocks. The next three red coins you can get are found riding the nearby pole, grabbing red coins along the way. Next, hit the red switch again, and get on the platform right next to you, riding that pole, and jumping to the next when it swings by. Now, while on the trajectory to the next pole, jump off onto the platform along the way. Once you're on, ride the right pole, then the left pole for your next two coins. Now that that's done, grab the next pole on the line, grabbing the red coin along the way, and then jump off. Swim all the way to the red switch, hit it one last time, and go back to the first platform. Go the way you went first this time, and from there, go to the next platform, and to the last platform holding a red coin from that. Grab it, and go grab your star. --------------------------------- Course 4 - Through The Jet Stream --------------------------------- You'll need Wario here, so grab him. Go back to the Submarine zone, and make Wario metal. Go down to the sea floor, and stand in the middle of the rings that shoot up through the metal grid. Once five have come up around you, a star will appear right above you. Grab it, your done. ------------------------------------ Course 5 - Koopa Surfin' Switch Star ------------------------------------ Be Wario again. Swim over to the area with the yellow block. Hit the yellow block, don't get on the shell. Break the three black blocks, revealing a switch. Run over the switch while on the shell, then hurry like hell over to that star. Hit it in the crystal shell, and you have yourself a pretty new gold star. -------------------------- Course 6 - Inside the Cage -------------------------- Be Luigi here. Go to the Submarine area, and as Luigi, hit the red block, turning invisible. Go back to the area at the seafloor where those rings come up again, but a bit beyond. Notice that conspicious cage. Swim right in, you're set. Grab that star. --------------------------------- Course 7 - The Manta Ray's Reward --------------------------------- Doesn't matter who you are here. Just go down and swim behind the Manta Ray. Rings appear in it's wake. Swim through five without missing a single one. Once you've done this, a star appears right above the whirlwind. Success, collection time. ------------- 100 Coin Star ------------- Do course three, because of the extra 16 coins afforded to you by the red coins. To start off, cruise around on the Koopa Shell, taking out the enemies to get coins. Then, swim to the Submarine area, collecting all the coins along the way. Finishing up, hit the blue coin switch to cap it all off, collecting coins like wildfire. There you go. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= 3.11. Snowman's Land =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= ---------------- Area Information ---------------- Required Stars - 30 Location - Go to Wario's Painting Room, and jump through the fake left wall Cannon Buddy - Within the igloo, next to red power block Cannon Location - Right next to starting point Red Coin Buddy - Bottom right corner of the igloo ----------------------------- Course 1 - Snowman's Big Head ----------------------------- Start off by moving left, jump over that deadly ice water. That stuff kills, so watch out. Now, get to the point where sheets of snow are shot at you. Jump past it, and, disregarding the sign, do a triple jump to get to the top of where the shots are coming from. Go up the path slowly, no way in hell you'll want to go through that hell again. Once your to the penguin, go forward, and have your cap blown off, as you fly away. >_< OR, have the Penguin cover for you as you hurry like hell across that path. Now, if you do make it across, jump on that damn snowman's head and grab the well-deserved star. ------------------------------- Course 2 - Chill With The Bully ------------------------------- For this course, go straight forward, until you see a lone enemy on an ice platform that is above the ice lake. Jump on, be careful of sliding, and jump or punch him off. Grab the star, you're done! *claps* -------------------------------- Course 3 - Yoshi's Ice Sculpture -------------------------------- Of course, you're going to need Yoshi. Obviously. Plan here is, to make them their Yoshi into a fire-breathing machine. To do this, go over to the little fenced in area with Goomba's and a fire. Eat the fire, go back to where you started the level. Go over to the area with the ice pillers, jump from one pillar to another, until you're to the top pillar, then burn through the top block to access the star. --------------------------------------- Course 4 - Whirl From The Freezing Pond --------------------------------------- Might as well keep Yoshi for this course, his jump'll come in useful. Go to the area where ice sheets are shooting at you, look around for some flower enemies. They're right near the prize. Jump right to them with Yoshi's superior jumping skills, and ground pound the left box to get your star. -------------------------------- Course 5 - Snowman's Silver Star -------------------------------- Here we are with one of those oh so rare silver star missions. Or, not so much. Moving on. Go back to where you just got that sweet, sweet star from course four. This time, go with the right box, which ironically enough, is the box on the right. Yep, you've got yourself a Koopa Shell. Hop on and go for a ride, going straight up that hill for the first silver star, then keep on going north for another silver star, then fall right off and catch the silver star in the nearby niche. The fourth silver star can be found directly beneath the Ice Bully from the second course. Lastly, loop back and go to the fire and the goombas for the final silver star. Go back to the start of the map and grab the star. ------------------------- Course 6 - Into The Igloo ------------------------- Go in as Luigi. That's not advice, that's a requirement. So, if you just thought to yourself, "Forget him, he doesn't tell me what to do!" you're wrong. Now that that's cleared up, go all the way back to the Koopa Shell in the box to the right. Hop on and go back to the spot with the ice ice sheets attacking you, and take move a little bit past to the water, to the trail of coins moving up the base of the snowman. Get to the top and dismount, then enter the igloo. Once inside, scout out the red block that's nearby. Grab it and jump down to the cage near the bottom, next to the entrance. Move right on in, as you are invisible, and claim your star. --------------------------------- Course 7 - Red Coins In The House --------------------------------- Sadly, you have to go through all that hassle to get back inside the igloo. Sorry. Well, do go back into the igloo, all of your red coins are inside. First, go north to where you can see the silhouttes of three coins. The middle one is a red coin, so jump up and grab it. Go forward for the next coin, as it is next to the yellow block. Next one is near the platform that's almost above you, in the water. Keep going forward for the next coin, it's straight ahead. Next up, back in the water. Look for a lineup of coins, the last is a red coin. Time to go back to the entrance, where you'll find a red coin floating in the air. Just mocking you. Annoying. Get it back by grabbing it. Go northwest to find another mocking coin in the air in that corner. The last coin should be right near the one you just got it, and then grab the star, it should appear right next to you. ------------- 100 Coin Star ------------- No real problems here, just go around, killing enemies and collecting their coins. Go to every corner of the map, and once you're done, enter the igloo, to find the largest amount of coins. There's quite a few in here, more if you do this on the seventh course, since you'll have an additional sixteen coins to collect. You shouldn't have any difficulties for this 100 coin star. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= 3.12. Wet-Dry World =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= ---------------- Area Information ---------------- Required Stars - 30 Location - Right in front of the door from the first floor, with a skimmer on it. Cannon Buddy - On the fourth level, right in the middle of the top of the map. Cannon Location - Southwestern corner of map, at the very top of tower where you find the first course's star. Red Coin Buddy - On platform with yellow block at the very top of the town section of the level. Something interesting about this level, before we get into the courses. As you jump in, you can change the water level of the course before you enter. Jump in low to make the water level low, or jump in high to make the water level high. With that, to the first course! -------------------------------- Course 1 - Shocking Arrow Lifts! -------------------------------- Start this course off by going backwards and hitting the red switch to make a path appear, follow the path to collect the coins, and then pass through the small crystal thing. As the water level rises, go in the direction the map shows you that the star is on, until you find two small brown platforms next to a larger platform. Go from the small brown platforms to the large platform, then go from one of the odd, little blocks to another, being very careful not to fall off. They'll move beneath you, so don't try jumping from one to another. Once you're across, hit the yellow block to get the star. -------------------------- Course 2 - Top O' The Town -------------------------- Make the water high for this one. Go straight forward until you get to the ramp, go up said ramp, and you should go up to the next level, running past the purple enemy that throws you across the map to get to the small wooden plank. Cross the plank to get to a platform, then jump from the spinning platform to get to the star. ------------------------------------------ Course 3 - 5 Secrets in The Shallows & Sky ------------------------------------------ For this level, go in with the water as low as possible. Go left from where you start, until you reach the tower like thing. From now on, I'm calling it a tower. So, know that. Anyway, move past the fire-spitting enemy until you see a block in the wall. Push it in to get the first secret, announced by a number hovering above you. Next, raise the water up until you can get to the third level, and once you do, jump on to of the circular platform that has a Buzzer circling it. Hit the yellow block for the next secret. After this, go over to the red switch, hit it and jump on top of the newly appeared blocks, and once you reach to the top of the cage, hit the yellow block for the next. Lower the water level as much as possible, and then go to the southwestern corner of the map, where you'll see a lone block sitting there. Push it left for the second to last secret. Push it far enough to hit the yellow block, which is the last secret. Go and collect the star, which is on the wood bridge that you start the level off next to. -------------------------------------- Course 4 - Express Elevator--Hurry Up! -------------------------------------- Easy level, go in as Luigi as high of a water level as possible. Go to the northwest corner with the red power block, hit it, and become invisible. Hurry as fast as possible to the cage and jump through to grab the star. Simple. --------------------------------------- Course 5 - Go To Town For The Red Coins --------------------------------------- Red coin level. It's not like anyone's tired of this, eh? Of course not. Well, talk to the Bob-Omb that controls the cannon, then jump in to get to the cage that is impenetrable to enter otherwise. It's in the northeastern corner. Now, swim downwards, and follow the tunnel until you get to the town. You're here. Now, put the water as high as possible, and go red coin hunting. First one you should find is right next to the town halls steeple. Next, drain the water, and hit the nearby red switch next to the crystal. Jump from block to block to find a red block, break it to get to the coin. Hit the red switch again, and go to the northeastern corner of the town, climbing the new ladder of red blocks quickly to destroy one red block for a red coin, and do it again on a nearby roof for another coin. On your way back to the red switch, break the red block close to the town hall for your fifth coin. Hit the red switch again, and go over to the western side this time, going up to the nearby roof from the new block, and then doing a triple jump to reach the western house. Break the brick, get the coin. You know the drill. Last two coins are in the last two boxes hovering next to the pyramid in a walled-in box. Break them, grab the two coins, and then go to the newly appeared star. --------------------------------------- Course 6 - Quick Race Through Downtown! --------------------------------------- Be Luigi. Go back to the town, and go north to the red power block. Hit it, turn invisible, and go to the northwestern corner to get to the star after hopping from the inside power block to some steps. What an amazingly easy level. ------------------------------ Course 7 - Soaked Silver Stars ------------------------------ At least you don't have to go to the town this time. Go in as Mario. First, go to the Bob-Omb that opens the cannor for you, then over to the reb power block nearby. Hit it and float over to the course's middle, where you'll find the first silver star. From where you dropped down, go south and underwater to find another silver star. Go left from there and a bit farther underwater to find a silver star next to the water level changing crystal. Next, go over to the ramp in the northeastern corner of the map, and you should see a fourth silver star nearby it. Hit the crystal right by you to lower the water to the very bottom, and then go back to where you started the level. Break the nearby red blocks until one yields the last silver star. Raise the water level as high as possible again, and swim over to the crystal ball holding the level's star. ------------- 100 Coin Star ------------- Course five is the way to go. Just go around defeating enemies, breaking boxes and bricks to collect coins. Once you're absolutely certain there aren't anymore enemies or coin-giving things left, go to the town and collect the coins you still need. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= 3.13. Tall, Tall Mountain =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= ---------------- Area Information ---------------- Required Stars - 30 Location - Second floor, painting with numerous mushrooms platforms. Cannon Buddy - Next to the area with the monkey, on the monkey's side of the wood bridge, between two stone platforms, there's a small stone platform where the Pink Bob-Omb is hiding. I've beaten this game many a time without finding this, so imagine my surprise when I fell down the mountain and landed right by her. Cannon Location - In the area with many mushroom platforms, it's beneath the path. Only way to get to it is to stand on one of the smaller of the mushroom platforms. You'll warp there. Red Coin Buddy - Found on the starting path, right before the first jump. Can't miss her. ----------------------------- Course 1 - Scale The Mountain ----------------------------- This is an incredibly simple course, just long. Go up the mountain, defeating goomba's and avoiding obstacles along the way. Notable obstacles include gusts of wind, tricky jumps, and the occasional mole. No, really. Once you've reached the moles, go up the little maze and continue onwards through the path, scaling the mountain. A really tricky jump is when you go past some goombas and you have to jump from the path to a new, wooden path across a waterfall. A doublejump should suffice though, then just contine on to the top, where the star is hovering in the air next to a red power block. ------------------------------------- Course 2 - Mystery Of The Monkey Cage ------------------------------------- Go back up the mountain, and at the top you should run into an annoying little monkey. Grab/Eat him, and then let him go, and follow him to a cage with a star. Let him break the star, then jump down to where it fell. ------------------------------------ Course 3 - Scary 'Shrooms, Red Coins ------------------------------------ Love how easy this one is. Go up the path and grab the first four red coins that are floating above mushroom platforms. Keep going, and once you reach the mole, go up the puzzle maze to find another three. When at the top of the maze, do a triple jump to reach the last red coin. Go back to the moles and do a triple jump over to the mushroom platform that your star is hovering on. ---------------------------------- Course 4 - Mysterious Mountainside ---------------------------------- Halfway up the mountain, you'll run into a cloud that blows wind. Annoying. Go past him quickly, and follow a trail of coins right into a wall, that is actually a secret path. Go right into it. A slide? Yep, sure is. I really don't know how to guide you through this slide. It's tricky, there are lots of tricky jumps, and at the end, you really do have to jump at a supposed jump, don't do nothing when you get to it, jump. The good news is that if you die, which you likely will, you're returned to the slide, which I, and I'm sure you also are, profoundly thankful for. At the end, collect your star. --------------------------------------- Course 5 - Blast To The Lonely Mushroom --------------------------------------- Here, if you haven't unlocked the cannon, do it now, with the instructions in the start of the level's area information. Once unlocked, use the warp that I told you how to do in the same area of the guide and then go down the path to the cannon. Aim carefully, only two or so centimeters on the screen over the mushroom the star is hovering over, and you should fly right into it. ------------------------------------ Course 6 - 5 Secrets Of The Mountain ------------------------------------ This is another one of those levels where you have to find "secrets". Yay, eh? Might as well get started. You should be Mario for this course. Use the owl in the tree that's right next to you in the start of the course to get to the top of the mountain. Once you've reached it, hit the power block to get a feather. Now, fly around and you'll notice multiple circles of coins with a coin in the middle. Five, in fact. Not a coincidence. Fly through each of the five circles, being sure to hit each middle coin, and your star will appear at the top of the mountain. Go get it. -------------------------------------------- Course 7 - Breathtaking View From The Bridge -------------------------------------------- Use Wario. Use the owl to go to the top, then go down and right until you're on a wooden bridge that's right next to a waterfall that you can see a black brick in. Hop inside the waterfall, break the black brick, and head forward to the newly revealed star. What a nice view. ------------- 100 Coin Star ------------- Well, a good plan for this level would be to do course 6, and before you get started on all those coins in the air, go around defeating enemies and getting coins. If you don't have enough at that point, go on and get the coins in the air with the feather cap. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= 3.14. Tiny-Huge Island =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= ---------------- Area Information ---------------- Required Stars - 30 Location - Left of the entrance to the second floor, there's a door. Go inside and jump through one of the pictures on either side of you, but know that the left picture makes you big and the right picture makes you small as you enter. Cannon Buddy - In the very most southeast corner. Cannon Location - In the very most northeast corner. Red Coin Buddy - Inside the cave with the red coins, right next to the entrance of the cave. ----------------------------------- Course 1 - Pluck The Piranha Flower ----------------------------------- Go through the left picture. Jump from the first island to the next, and then to the next with the pipe and the piranha. Go in the pipe. You come out as a small version of yourself. There are multiple Piranha Flowers in the area, go around and defeat each one of them with punches. Once done, your star will have appeared. ----------------------------------------- Course 2 - The Tip Top Of The Huge Island ----------------------------------------- Go through the left picture. Jump to the next island, climb the tree, and jump from the tree to the mountain. Go left to the pipe next to the hole spitting out metal balls. Jump in. Once you've come out, jump up the next platforms, while avoiding the throwing enemy, and going to the right to get to the wooden path to the next platform. Just continue on up and hit the yellow block and collect your star. --------------------------------------- Course 3 - Rematch With Koopa The Quick --------------------------------------- Go through the left picture. Jump to the next island, climb the tree, jump from the tree to the mountain, you know the drill. Go to the same pipe as before and repeat the process of making yourself small. Go right, over to the fence and talk to Koopa the Quick. Wow, I sure do hate this guy. Not because he's tough to beat, but because he's such a terrible character. Anyway, the path to victory is running back to the metal ball spitting device and beyond, to the windy bridge that's sort of tough to pass, never stopping or slowing and taking the flag, and the star. ---------------------------- Course 4 - Klepto The Condor ---------------------------- Easy level. Go through the left picture. Jump to the next island, climb the tree, and jump from the tree to the mountain. I'm really tired of typing that. But beyond my lazyness, find one of several paths to the wooden walkway near the top of the mountain, and wait. When that krazy kondor, sorry, crazy condor flies above you, jump up and knock the star away from it. To get to the star, go to the pipe that you use in course one, and next to it, hit the red switch, and run to get your star. ------------------------------ Course 5 - Wiggler's Red Coins ------------------------------ Be Mario. Go through the right picture. About time. Sweet. Anyway, go through the hole in the wall, and from there swim to the beach, where you need to defeat the koopa and take his Koopa Shell. Travel up the not-so-steep hill on top of it. Dismount from the shell, and then use the bridge to enter the hole in the mountain. Once inside, dart around, being very, very careful with your jumping and collect seven coins within reach, and then go to the red power block. Hit the block and then float over to the last coin next to the star. Once the star appears, jump down and grab it. ------------------------------ Course 6 - Make Wiggler Squirm ------------------------------ Go through the left picture. Go through the charde of getting onto the mountain, you know how it goes by now. Get to the very top of the mountain and ground pound the water, making a hole. Once you've done this, jump down to the pipe next to the metal ball shooter. Jump in. Once small, go back to the top of the mountain and fall through the hole you made earlier. Aw nuts, Wiggler isn't happy. Jump on his head three times to defeat him, he gets faster, and after the second hit, redder, so watch out. ------------------------------------ Course 7 - Switch Star On The Island ------------------------------------ Go through the right picture. Go through the hole, swim to the beach, take the Koopa Shell, and take the path up to the inside of the mountain. Once inside, get over to the star switch, hit in, and then do a backwards jump to grab onto the wire above you, and then, using the wire, go over to the star and grab it. ------------- 100 Coin Star ------------- I suggest going in small, so that when you actually defeat enemies, they drop coins. Be careful, as it is obviously more dangerous. Once you've defeated all enemies on the map, and collected all the coins, go inside the mountain to grab all the red coins. Together, this should be sufficient for 100 coins. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= 3.15. Tick Tock Clock =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= ---------------- Area Information ---------------- Required Stars - 50 Location - On the third floor, jump through the clock directly ahead of the entrance. Cannon Buddy - N/A Cannon Location - N/A Red Coin Buddy - Right at the start of the level, close to the red heart. When you enter the clock plays a role in the terrain, so I'll state what time to enter. ---------------------------- Course 1 - Luigi In The Cage ---------------------------- You have to be Luigi, of course. Go in at 12 o'clock. Easy here, jump forward, go up the path, jump on the block, jump off the block, keep on the path, jump up on the three blocks, keep moving on the path. Once you get on the wire grid find the floating platforms and move up those, pass the cage, you can't get in yet, keep going. Once you get to the point where you can keep moving forward, or go up, go up. Go right, hit the red power block, turn invisible, and hurry back to the cage and collect your star. ----------------------------------- Course 2 - The Pendulum Switch Star ----------------------------------- Go in at 12 o'clock. Go up the path like last time, but this time, instead of going up when presented with the option of going forward or up, go forward. Hit the switch star, and then go the rest of the way as fast as possible, so that time doesn't run out. You should be able to make it to your star before that. --------------------- Course 3 - Get A Hand --------------------- Go in at 12 o'clock. Plan here is to go forward through the path until you get to the large wire area above you, and you should notice how the clock's hand now extends to the star in the crevice across from you. Walk over the hand and grab the star. God, I hate these witty little names they give the levels. I swear, the guy who wrote all these level names must have been the saddest, most pathetic person you'll ever meet in your life. ------------------------------ Course 4 - Stomp On The Thwomp ------------------------------ Go in as Mario. Go in at 12 o'clock. Once again, go through the whole ordeal of getting to the top. This time though, when faced with the decision to keep going forward, like you did in the switch star course, or go up, like you did in the first course, you're going up. Once again, hit the red power block, but since you're Mario this time, you're floating. Float straight up, being sure to get above the wire platform way up there, and landing on the path. Go up the path to the next red power block, and this time float over to the other side of the course and over the Thwomp, and grab that star. ------------------------------------- Course 5 - Timed Jumps On Moving Bars ------------------------------------- Go in as Wario. Go in at 12 o'clock. I'm sorry. At this point, you know what I'm going to say. Go up the path until you're faced with our favorite decision, forward or up. This time, up. Go past the first blocks and then up the second, breaking the black brick, go inside the cage and grab the star. ---------------------------------- Course 6 - Stop Time For Red Coins ---------------------------------- Obviously, 12 o'clock is the way to go. With time stopped, go behind you and go up the newly made platforms that are next to the wall. All eight coins are on the platforms on the wall. Really, this could be the easiest level in the game. It really could be. --------------------------------- Course 7 - Tick Tock Silver Stars --------------------------------- Go in at 12 o'clock. Here's a clue that has helped out many, many people. Just sit there at the bottom, and watch as it rains silver stars. No, really. After a time, the silver stars start moving, and since everything about this level is annoyingly small, the platforms they're on will let them lose and they'll fall to the bottom of the map, to you. Be patient, and before long you'll have all of the silver stars. Once that's out of the way, travel upwards, for the last time *unless you plan to get 100 coins* Go up, once again. Go left this time though, and break the container holding your star. Grab the star, of course. ------------- 100 Coin Star ------------- Go in at 12 o'clock. Move around, gathering coins, looking for obvious coins, and defeating every enemy you run across. Definitely grab the red coins too. The key to getting this star is being slow, looking everywhere, defeating every enemy, and going out of your way to grab each and every star. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= 3.16. Rainbow Ride =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= ---------------- Area Information ---------------- Required Stars - 50 Location - In the third level, to either side of Tick Tock Clock, there are semi-rooms on each side of it. Triple jump into those rooms and jump down the hole inside. Cannon Buddy - At the top of the red coin maze Cannon Location - On the right side of the cruiser Red Coin Buddy - On the starting platform, next to the sign --------------------------------------- Course 1 - Cruiser Crossing The Rainbow --------------------------------------- Get ready to hate this entire level. Great. You're ready. Hop onto the carpet and dodge numerous attacks that come at you. Once you get to the next platform, jump off quick. And I'm not talking about the circular platform with the coins, but the next one. Go east once on the multiple platforms, then right, then get on the flying carpet. Avoid obstacles until you reach the end of it's flight, then jump off over to the carpet on the left. Once again, avoid all obstacles you encounter while riding, and once it stops, jump onto the platform above you. Run onto the cruiser, and move to the front of it to collect your star. Hard level, but you have to admit the level design is nice. ----------------------------------- Course 2 - The Big House In The Sky ----------------------------------- Here we are again on the Rainbow Ride! ...Moving on, do the same as you did for the last course, but near the end, when you're choosing between the left or right flying carpet (The left carpet brought you to the cruiser), choose the right carpet. While on the carpet, you'll have to be doing a lot of jumping, so be ready for that as you jump on and over obstacles. Keep riding while the carpet takes you into and through a house *must suck to commute everyday...Sorry* as you avoid a flamethrowing fireplace. Once you're near the roof, jump on and claim your star. ---------------------------------- Course 3 - Coins Amassed In A Maze ---------------------------------- You have to be Luigi for this course. Go on the carpet, and once you get to the multiple spinning platforms, go forward. You'll have just entered a maze. It's an easy star, just go from ledge to ledge, checking for hidden red coins. You'll be done in no time. Grab the star once it appears. --------------------------------- Course 4 - Swingin' In The Breeze --------------------------------- You'll want to be Luigi again here. Look behind from where you're starting from and you'll be surprised by quite a bit of activity. Scout out where the numerous platforms are, including the tilting platform and a pole. Ignore the pole for this and do a backwards somersault to the platform. Keep going on to the next, wait for the moving platform, then hop on and continue moving. Once you're on the other side, jump on to another tilting platform onto a platform that falls once touched. Keep going from platform to platfrom until you get to the steep hill. You can climb it with repeated jumping and a whole lot of dashing, so just move on up. Jump onto the platform once you've reached the top, and wait until you're within range of the star's platform. Once within range, jump right on over and get it. --------------------------- Course 5 - Tricky Triangles --------------------------- Once again, Luigi's the way to go. Go all the way to that hill from the last star, but this time, move right. Go over a good deal of platforms until you get to a switch. Hit it and move quickly across the newly flipped platforms. Once you've got to the top, grab your star and laugh victoriously. ------------------------------------- Course 6 - Somewhere Over The Rainbow ------------------------------------- This time, use Mario. Go back to the red coin maze, which is on the forward path from the spinning platforms at the start of the level. Go to the very bottom path, and then to the end of it, where you have to do a series of wall jumps to reach the top. Once you have, move over to the Pink Bob-Omb, and have her activate the cannon. I'm sorry, but now you have to go to the cruiser. Yes, the whole way. I'm sorry. Once there, jump into the cannon. Aim right through the ring, for the love of God you don't want to do this again. Once you hit the pole, slide down and move quickly to the yellow box, hit it to get the star. Avoid the enemy there, I nearly broke my DS when it grabbed me the first time through this course. ----------------------------------- Course 7 - Switch Star Of The Manor ----------------------------------- You have to be Mario here. Go to the multiple spinning platforms again, and go right, on the path to the cruiser. Ride the carpet, and take the right carpet this time, back to the house. Once you're inside, jump off the carpet. Leave the house from the front exit, and move to the end of the platform, and hit the switch. Run back inside and hit the red power block to get the floating ability, and go right up to the roof and grab the star. You will likely have to deflate to get to it in time. ------------- 100 Coin Star ------------- This star is quite annoying to get. Still, it's doable. Go in as Mario. Grab the 24 coins on the way to the red coin maze, eight from three spinning platforms. Once you've reached the maze, grab another sixteen coins, in the form of the eight red coins. You're now at 40. Go over to the Blue Coin switch and hit it, hurrying to do wall jumps to grab the oh so valuable blue coins. You should now be at 70 or so coins. Go back to the multiple spinning platforms and go right, from where you are coming from. Grab the five coins just sitting there, kill the Lakitu and Shy Guy along the way. You should now be at 82 coins. Keep going to the next platform, and grab those five coins. Once you're to the falling platforms, go quickly, but carefully. Still, keep moving, and grab the five coins there, and then further on, another five coins. We're now at 97 coins. Take the path to the cruiser and collect the last three coins along the way to get your last three coins. If your star ends up being in the air, while on the carpet, jump for it and grab it. It's worth a life. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= 3.17. Bowser Battles =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= You'll need Mario to fight all these battles. Each battle consists of an area to go through and a boss battle at the end, and they all revolve (get it?) round Mario grabbing his tail and throwing it into a bomb at the edges of the level. There are also two stars to be had in each area too, one for collecting 8 coins and the other being a switch star. You can get these two stars whilst on the way to the boss, you won't exit back out to the castle, it will just prompt you to save. The walkthroughs for all of these are in this section. ------------------------------------- Battle One - Bowser In The Dark World ------------------------------------- Required Stars - 12 Location - Main Hall, up stairs, left door Red Coin Buddy - Near end of the area; ledge next to last red coin / switch star Areas unlocked - Basement Hazy Maze Cave Lethal Lava Land Shifting Sand Land Walkthrough ----------- If you have unlocked the ? blocks then you can use it to float up to the area above if you want to cut out a section of the level. Otherwise, follow this normal walkthrough. Move onward, over the plank and past the fire and rotating black platforms. Ignore the slide and head round behind it, up the ramp and across the rotating platforms to the Goomba platform (the ! block contains a 1-Up Green Mushroom). Head across the bridge and all the way up the green path whilst avoiding the electic enemies. Head across various platforms until some large blue see-saws. Stand on the left end for about two seconds then carry on to the next one, do the same and come off. Finally, activate the red switch, climb the stairs and enter the pipe to face Bowser. Bowser Battle ------------- To defeat Bowser you have to grab his tail, swing him around and throw him into one of the bombs that surround the stage. Run around him until you can stop and grab his tail, then rotate around (the touch screen helps here) and Mario will swing him around by his tail. Look at the touch screen and press A when you are passing by a bomb to throw him there. As soon as you press Mario will throw so you'll need to get used to that. If you are having trouble grabbing his tail then stand in front of him for a moment or two and he will breathe fire, giving you a good window. You only need to throw him into one bomb to win and get the key to the Basement area. Red Coin Locations ------------------ You must be Mario to get these red coins. The Red Coin Buddy can be found on the ledge next to the final coin (a lot of use there, eh?) The star can be found next to the end pipe. 1 - Use the ? block ahead to float. There is a coin out to the right side of where you begin, so float there and then head back. 2 - At the first fire spirting obsticle, there is a red switch. Activate it so you can retrive the red coin off to the right. 3 - On the green path halfway through the stage. 4 - Just after the green path is a platform with a moving yellow section. The red coin is on the latter side. 5 - Just after the above coin location is two rotating black platforms. This red coin is there. 6 - Before the blue see-saw platforms is a detour to round brown island off to the side, connected by a thin blue bridge. Head there and get the coin whilst avoiding the electric ball. 7 - After the blue see-saws drop down to the ledge with the two Goobma's. Look back and on the right ledge is the red coin; the two areas are linked but it's a small link, so walk so you don't fall. 8 - Now get back on the last see-saw so it hightens at the other end, and jump off to the ledge there. Jump to the next ledge for the final coin (along with the location of final switch star). Switch Star ----------- Right by the end pipe is the switch star. Activate it and it will appear on the last ledge above the blue see-saws. To get there, head down the stairs you activated, down to where the two Goomba's are / where and get back on the last see-saw so it hightens at the other end, and jump off to the ledge there. Jump to the next ledge for the star. ----------------------------------- Battle Two - Bowser In The Fire Sea ----------------------------------- Required Stars - 30 Location - Basement, left as you go in Red Coin Buddy - Far end of the level, after the moving pole section Areas unlocked - Second Floor Dire, Dire Docks (before battle) Snowman's Land Wet-Dry World Tall, Tall Mountain Tiny-Huge Island Before you can do this battle you have to do Episode 1 of Dire, Dire Docks. Dive down deeper into the water, and head through the tunnel to the large area at the other end. When you get there, come out at side of the sub and onto the side ledge. Now you can either activate the red switch and use the path to climb on board and get the star, or use a power flower from the ? block and float your way to the star. Either way once you get the star, you can access Battle Two - Bowser In The Fire Sea by going in the hole in front of the level enterance. Walkthrough ----------- Go ahead and onto the mesh platform that will take you to the far platform (you'll have to use the platform and the two side squares to prevent you going into the lava). Head across the corrigated metal like section when the lava isn't high, then head straight past the enemies to the far end pole. Jump at the top and when it's at it's highest point jump off to the left. Climb the pole at the end in to the cage section and take the lift up to the top. Go onward past the moving platform, over the blue obsticle and over (not under) the mesh section. Keep going and at the top of the yellow ramp section wait for the stone path to descend so you can climb it up. At the top head past the long corrigated metal like section (stick to the highest point on each one) and use the heart at the end for health. In this final section use the poles and not their platforms to make it to the end. Bowser Battle ------------- This is the exact same as last time, except this time he can jump and cause the arena to wobble like mad. When he does jump as he lands to avoid the initial movement then jump again when you land so you can control yourself. He can also teleport to another part of the area. Despite this Bowser is still a walkover, just grab his tail, swing him around and throw him into one of the bombs that surround the stage the once and he's done for. Red Coin Locations ------------------ You must be Mario to get these red coins. The Red Coin Buddy can be found at the far end of the area, after the first small pole. The star can be found by wall jumping above that pole you have to drop down into, right near the end. 1 - After the first corrigated metal like section there is a yellow mesh walkway that leads off to the left. Head up there and grab the coin that is hovering over the gap. 2 - After the first small pole, it's on the right of the stone platform. 3 - Inside the cage section, in one of the corners high up. 4 - In the cage section, step on the lift then get off. Fall down where the lift was the collect the coin underneath. 5 - After the lift get on top of the blue obstcle and head up the walkway that joins it. This coin is on a platform here guarded by an enemy so quick in and quick out (drop down on to the mesh on the left after). 6 - When going up the yellow ramp section, you may notice a strange rectangle sticking out the end of one of the gray platforms. stand on here and when the area rises, collect the red coin. 7 - At the long corrigated metal section toward the end, on the left in the path of the flames. Take your time here. 8 - On top of the final small pole before the end. Switch Star ----------- You know the end section with the rising and dipping poles? Well at the pole you have to drop through the hole on, instead wall jump above here to find the switch star. The star is located just before that hellish long corrigated metal section. Your best bet is to wait until the lava is sinking then long jump from the top and peg it over the corrigated metal to victory. -------------------------------- Battle Three - Bowser In The Sky -------------------------------- Required Stars - 80 Location - Top floor, opposite Tick Tock Clock Red Coin Buddy - After the green steps you activate with the red ! switch. Areas unlocked - N/A Walkthrough ----------- Head up the platforms to the large box. Head over the twisting weight sensitive path and up the arrow wall at the end. Go round the corner avoiding the Goombas and over the rotating platform with the glass bubble in the middle. Head round the path (stick to the sides to avoid the Pirahna plant) and over the see-saw ledge to the rotating ferris wheel platforms. At it's peak back flip off on to the path above, and activate the ! switch and go up the green steps. Head up this path while avoiding the flames from the sides, around the corner and back down to the side checkered ledge. Get onto the arrow platform that will take you onward over various blocks - use backflips if you cannot get over the tall ones. At the other end head across and over the two rotating platforms, up the pole at the end and across to the top of the other pole, waiting for the red ledge on the other side to move out toward you so you can get one. Head up the winding path and onto the ferris wheel platforms, up another one to the path above. Head round the corner, run against the wind up to the steps on the opposite side and enter the pipe to fight Bowser. Bowser Battle ------------- Pretty much the same battle as twice before, except now he breathes fire on to the stage which can be drawn toward you. The plan is to make sure he doesn't do this, and if he does stop spinning Bowser or whatever and just dodge the flames. Be quick as soon as you are free to grab hold of him and give throwing him against a bomb like usual. As always this is tough, so try launching him just near the edge so you can get closer to one making it somewhat easier for you. If you miss, then when he appears he may bounce off an edge and destroy it so watch out for that, plus he'll produce shockwaves that you must jump over. It'll take 2 bombs for him to start destroying the area, so the dark star in the centre of the area remains. One more bomb will finish him off. Enjoy the ending! Red Coin Locations ------------------ You must be Mario to get these red coins. The Red Coin Buddy 1 - After the first few gaps, jump off the box to get the coin in the air. 2 - After the rotating platform with the glass bubble, it'll be on the corner. 3 - At the see-saw platform, drop down to the long ledge below where a coin is located on a tiny ledge off the side. 4 - After the green steps (activated by the red ! switch) is a path that goes verical at some points. At the corner at the top is a red coin. 5 - On the moving platform, a red coin is above one of the blocks; back flip to reach it. 6 - After the moving platform are two rotating platforms; a coin is behind the first platform's central column. Rotate the camera round a little so you can see it better. 7 - Above the pole after the rotating platforms. 8 - Just before the pipe at the end are a short set of stairs. Underneath is a thin ledge, so drop on to this from the side where the last coin is under the stairs. Switch Star ----------- When it comes to the first see-saw platform with the ferris wheel platforms after, drop down the long ledge below where the switch is at the far end. Activate, and the star is located back in the glass bubble at the rotating platform; run across this long ledge, up the platforms at the end, round the short winding path to the rotating platform. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= 3.18. Castle Secret Stars =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= --------------------------------- Princess Peach's Secret Slide I --------------------------------- Enter the character selection room and jump through the Princess Peach picture on the right. Go down the simple slide as slow as you want to and collect your star at the end. ---------------------------------- Princess Peach's Secret Slide II ---------------------------------- Go back to the secret slide, and go down and finish the slide by 20 seconds or less to get this secret star. --------------------- Courtyard Red Coins --------------------- Go to the castle's courtyard once you have fifteen stars exactly, and be sure to go once you have fifteen stars or you may not ever be able to collect this star because of a glitch in the game. Now, to get to the courtyard, from the main hall, enter one of the two plain-looking wood doors, and then follow the big Boo down the corridor. Run around and defeat all the Boo's in the courtyard. They should be carrying the eight red coins. Once you've got all eight, go over and collect the star. ----------------------- The Oddest Of Locales ----------------------- Go back to the courtyard, and this time, go over to the red blocks and break all of them, revealing a hole. Jump on down through the hole. The objective is to get all five silver stars. Yay for originality in the Mission Design Department. >_< Anyway, move straight forward and climb the pole on the cage to get to the first star, and then defeat the nearby Goomba for the second. Go south from there to the red boxes and destroy all of them to find the third silver star. The second to last star is in a box in a corner of the map, go and get it. The last is residing with a nearby Goomba from the fourth star, so get rid of him and claim your secret star. -------------------------- Flying High In The Light -------------------------- To enter here, stand in the Main Hall of the castle and look at the light when you get 16 stars. You go here to activate the ? switches. Start again and turn right and follow the coin trail. There are two red coins in each loop with a total of four loops. As long as you keep it steady, it's a doddle. The star will spawn on the central tower. --------------- Isle Delfino? --------------- The scenary and music could have fooled me. Anyway, go to the room with Toad in it, accepting keys from catching rabbits. Hop into the nearby tropical picture to enter the secret area. Again, you must get all five silver stars, which is very easy to do with the touch screen map and the tiny size of the area. You'll have found them all in a minute flat, so go get your star! ----------------------- The Unremarkable Door ----------------------- Go to the character selection room after catching all eight of the glowing rabbits outside the castle with Yoshi. If you're having trouble finding them all, go back inside the castle and then come out again. Once you've gotten all eight, go in as Yoshi and enter the door that has no markings on it. You'll leave with a star. --------------------- A Mirror of Mirrors --------------------- If you can't guess, go to the room filled with mirrors on the second floor as Luigi. Get the flower from the pillar and turn invisible, then go right through the mirror in front of you, and then straight forward to a door. Enter the door and collect your star. ---------------------------------------- The Adventures Of Star Toad - Issue #1 ---------------------------------------- Go to the Hazy Maze room, and then look nearby the pool for a half-hidden Toad. Talk to him to get a star. A new hope for Star Toad! ---------------------------------------- The Adventures Of Star Toad - Issue #2 ---------------------------------------- Talk to the Toad on the second floor, next to the stairs leading to the third floor, and he'll give you a star for your minimal trouble. Star Toad strikes back! ---------------------------------------- The Adventures Of Star Toad - Issue #3 ---------------------------------------- On the third floor, nearby Rainbow Ride's little hidey-hole, Toad stands. Talk to him one last time for one last star. Return of Star Toad! ------------------------------------ Mystery Lurking Beneath The Moat I ------------------------------------ Go outside the castle as Wario, and be sure to have drained the moat. Now, go down to the moat's level and search for a black block. Break it and enter the hole it was hiding. You've got red coins! The first four are on green platforms near the slide. After getting past the slide, go for the next two that are on the tilting platforms. The seventh red coin should be in the floating in the air further along the way, and the last is right at the end of the secret stage, at the dead end. You're not done yet, however! You still have to go get the Luigi cap, put it on, hit the red power block, and dash into the cage to get the star. ------------------------------------- Mystery Lurking Beneath The Moat II ------------------------------------- Go back to the secret area as before. This time, we've got a switch star to do. This time, however, you're going to need to grab the Mario cap once inside. So, do so, and then hit the red power block and start floating upwards towards the small platform in the upper-lefthand corner of the map. Hit the switch, and then quickly make it over to the red power block to keep on going up to the star. --------------------------------- Jolly Roger Swimming Experience --------------------------------- Go to the Jolly Roger room, and look to the left wall to find a hole. Jump through the hole and you'll quickly find that you've got eight red coins to find. They're all in plain sight and are easy to get, so I won't bother making a list. Grab your star once you're done. ------------------------------------- Hazy Maze Cave Secret Red Coin Star ------------------------------------- Enter Hazy Maze Cave as anyone but Wario. Go to the room with the sea creature, and jump on it's head. Whatever direction you're facing, it moves in. Look around for a platform with a red wire net nearby. Jump onto it and enter the door, and go right into the pool inside. Once inside the secret area, head over and grab the Wario cap from a platform. Now, head straight forward and get the two red coins in the little cave, then keep going forward and get the next two on the last platform. Now, hit the red power block, turn metal, and go into the water, grabbing the last four red coins and the star. -------------------------------------- Hazy Maze Cave Secret Waterfall Star -------------------------------------- Go back to the secret area in Haze Maze Cave as Mario. Hit the red power block and start floating up until you get to the next red power block, and then go up again until your reach the star. ---------------------------- Chief Chilly Red Coin Hunt ---------------------------- The first coin is on the first moving platform, should be easy to spot. The next is further on, floating with other coins on the path to the right. From there, go to the ice pond and the third will be nearby. Next, go over the fence and grab the floating red coin. Halfway done. Now, go over to the multiple ice platforms, and you'll find two more red coins in the area. Then, using a Luigi cap, go to the top of the map and use the red power block to enter the nearby cage to grab the seventh coin, then grab a Mario cap. Go back to that red power block as Mario and start floating up, until you reach the ledge on the west side of the map. Get the last red coin and then go grab your star. ------------------------------- Chief Chilly Wario Block Star ------------------------------- Get the Wario cap, and then go over to the red power block. Turn metal and then go left on the split path and at the end of it, break the black block for the star. -------------------- Rainbow Passings I -------------------- Have to be Mario for this. Go up to the third floor and take the left hidey hole to enter this stage. Talk to the Pink Bob-Omb to have her open the cannon. Now, get the nearby red coin, and then hit the red power block for the ability to fly. Fly around and grab your seven remaining red coins, using the cannon when it seems impossible to get a coin. Fly and grab your star once you're done. --------------------- Rainbow Passings II --------------------- Mario again, go to the same place. Hit the red power block, and then fly to Wario's cap, which you can locate using the touch screen. Put it on, and use the cannon to slam right into a tree next to a black block. Get off and break the block to get your star. ---------------------------- Goomboss's Eight Red Coins ---------------------------- Go to the painting where you fought Goomboss in, the one with Mario as the painting. Now, we've got another eight coins to get. Go in as Yoshi. Let's see, the first coin can be found next to some short platforms, by killing the Pirhana Plant. The next is beneath a red wire net, the third is in the approximate center of the level, on a platform that tilts. Go over to the Wario cap now, and hit the nearby black block to get the fourth. Look around for a pole now, and then climb it to find the fifth red coin. At the absolute northern corner of the map with moving platforms, the sixth can be found at the top of it. Now, go to the Mario cap and then to the red power block, and float up to the seventh red coin, and then get the Luigi cap, and go to the red power block. Turn invisible and go over to the cage next to the stump to get the final red coin. Go collect your star. ------------------------ Goomboss's Switch Star ------------------------ Go in as Mario. Go right from the slide to a platform that should remind you faintly of a z, then look back and jump up onto the small Pirhana Plant holding platform. Once you've bypassed them, go left, and then hit the switch. Move as fast as possible to the red cage, and do a furious series of wall jumps to reach the star in time. ----------------------- Giant Boo's Red Coins ----------------------- Be Mario. First coin is next to a nearby door, grab it. Go right from there, right into the right room. Go over to the red coin sitting in the corner. Third coin can be found right from there, along the way. Then, go left into the next room, where you need to hit the red power block for Mario to start floating. Float up to the coin, and then go right again, for the fifth coin. Go to the door on the right, and then do to the right side of the room for the seventh coin, and the left side for the eighth. ------------------------------ Giant Boo's Painting Mystery ------------------------------ Have to be Luigi here. Go to the red power block and turn invisible, and then to the room with the painting of Giant Boo, which you need to jump through to get the star. That only covers 24 of the 30 secret stars in the game, but the last six are in the Bowser Battles section that Crazyreyn wrote, so look there for those three battle's switch star and red coin solutions. =============================================================================== ---------------------------------- 4. FINDING MARIO, LUIGI, WARIO ---------------------------------- =============================================================================== ----- Mario ----- Stars needed - 8 Characters needed - Yoshi Location - Goomboss Battle. Once you have eight stars, head up the central stairs in the main hall and go through the right door to the character room. Head straight onward to Peach's Play Room. There's an 8 star door in the corner, so proceed through it where there is a Mario painting. Leap through to be taken to the Goomboss Battle stage. Walkthrough ----------- See the giant red cross on the touch screen map? That's where we are going. To get there, head down the slide then proceed onward through the tiles, the rising and descending log platforms, past the sleeping plant and up the green bean stalk (climb to the very top for a 1-Up Green Mushroom). Jump off and go over the bridge where there is a hole in the far platform, taking you to the boss (use the heart recovery on the right if you need to). Boss ---- The Goomboss will walk around the ring arena followed by Goombas. You'll have to swallow one of them then spit them at him (or turn them into an egg first). To get round Goomba you can just run all the way round or just jump past him and hover round back onto the area. He will get bigger and faster every time you hit him, and more Goomba's will spawn. The last one I advise making an egg as it will clear a lot of the Goomba's away. After three hits he will give you the Mario key. ----------------------- Activating the ? Blocks ----------------------- Play as Mario and when you get 16 stars go into the Main Hall of the castle. There will be light shining on the sun mozec on the floor. Stand on here and look at the light in first person to be taken to a special flying stage. To activate all the ? blocks in the game, fly down to the central tower and jump on the ? switch. Easy! You can also get a star here by flying around and collecting the red coins in the sky. Start again and turn right and follow the coin trail. There are two red coins in each loop with a total of four loops. As long as you keep it steady, it's a doddle. The star will spawn on the central tower. ----------------- Lowering the moat ----------------- Once you have gained access to the basement (12 stars to defeat Bowser battle 1, use the key to access). Once inside, head into the room next to the Hazy Maze Cave and dive into the water. Swim around and surface at the other end where there will be two columns in the water ahead. Ground Pound them both to lower the moat. This allows you to access the secret area outside (under the black brick), get certain bunnies for certain characters and access the basement from the outside. Pretty handy. ----- Luigi ----- Stars needed - 8 Characters needed - Mario Location - Big Boo Battle, inside Big Boo's Haunt from course 2 onward. Head into the mansion, up the stairs and into the right most room. Head into the corner and hit the ? block for a power flower. Rise up and land on the ledge above (press R to land) then head through the door. Jump through the Luigi painting. Walkthrough ----------- This is a maze like area where you have to go from room to room to find the boss. Use the magic of stereo sound to follow the laught to indicate where to go next. If you take the wrong door or fall into the black abyss, then you start from the beginning. If you get stuck then the great Jason Howell has produced an image for this area. Awesome. Cheers for letting me link to it! http://db.gamefaqs.com/portable/ds/file/super_mario_64_ds_big_boo.png Basically the route is like this; take the right door, then to the centre and left over the collapsing bridges and through the door. Jump into the center platform, then right and through the door. The next door is the left one so to make this room easier long jump straight to it. In the final area, sprint over the collapsing bridge then take the platforms up to the boss. Boss ---- You will see a mirror in front of you. Wait a while then approach the mirror to make the Big Boo appear. He is invisible due to the mirror however you can see his reflection, so use that to attack him from behind or the sides. You can still see his shadow so use that to know his whereabouts. And remember you are using the mirror to show his direction and that you have to sorta work in reverse. When he teleports, he will come to the other side. So if he was in the mirror he will show up on your side and be invisible on the mirror. If you touch him then you lose 2 pieces of health, but luckly there are coins lined up on the sides to help you. Like the other Boo bosses it takes three hits to take care of him, and then he will give you the Luigi key. Red Coin Locations ------------------ Collect all eight red coins to get this star. I will refer to their locations according to what room they are in, so it helps if you do them in order. If you miss one go back or just walk through the wrong door to warp back to the start. The buddy is located in Room 4. You have to play as Mario, by the way. 1 - Room 1 - By the door opposite of where you start. 2 - Room 2 - Center platform 3 - Room 2 - South platform (according to map, its the right as you enter) 4 - Room 3 - Use the ? block in the middle for a power flower and float up to the top right corner. 5 - Room 3 - Outside the East door (the next door you go through) 6 - Room 4 - To the right as you enter; long jump to it and aim to land on the platform on the other side (if you fall then no worries anyway). 7 - Room 4 - At the opposite left corner; long jump to it and aim to land on the platform on the other side (if you fall then no worries anyway). 8 - Room 5 - In Room 4 there is Wario cap, so wear it and enter Room 5, where there is a black block on the right as you come in. Care to guess what's inside? The star is located in Room 5, on the left as you enter. ----- Wario ----- Stars needed - 30 Characters needed - Luigi Location - Chief Chilly Challenge, Upstairs castle. You know the mirror room where you enter Snowman's Land? Well head to that room as Luigi, and there will be power flowers on top of the pedistalls. Collect one and walk into the mirror, and jump into the Wario painting on the right side. Walkthrough ----------- Thanks to AGameFreakHere92490 for creating an image (if you are reading this then your email wasn't working so I couldn't ask for full permission, however get in touch with me if there are any problems) of this area. Link - http://db.gamefaqs.com/portable/ds/file/super_mario_64_ds_chief_chilly.png Go down the slope and land at the area ahead. Avoid the bashing enemies and go across the platforms on the left and wait on the last one until the mesh platform comes from the right (if you stand near and wait you'll get clobbered by the enemy). At the other side go right (as the left is inaccessible for now) and fly into the body of water below. Get out sharpish (it's that freezing water that hurts) and sprint past the next area of enemies. Navigate your green ass past the moving platforms (take your time, espically on the one that moves vertically) then move onward. There is a Mario cap round the corner here (although I would stick with Luigi) otherwise start going up the ledges. Move fast to avoid the snowmen and jump down into the hole at the top to face Chief Chilly. Boss ---- The Chief, a ball of icey doom, will charge at you to try and knock out off. You to can charge at him by running and pressing A to lunge at him (which will send him flying) or just a simple punch. He won't fall off by himself. Once you know him off, he will destroy the outer edge of the arena. Do it again and he'll make the arena smaller still. When he jumps back on for the final time, he will knock the arena off balance so jump as he lands to avoid this. Do this same again but this time he will balance himself on the edge before he falls, so he'll need a final blow to finish him off. You get the Wario key for winning. =============================================================================== ------------------------------ 5. SECRETS AND UNLOCKABLES ------------------------------ =============================================================================== ------------------------------------- Drawing and Messing with Mario's Face ------------------------------------- On the title screen tapping Mario with the stylus enables you to go to drawing mode. While the image outline is black you can move and mess around with the lines on the screen; hitting the pencil icon erases the drawing and allows you to make your own. Hitting the hand again will allow you to mess around again. Hitting various buttons on the DS itself will allow you to stretch and the like also. ----------- Castle Roof ----------- Once you have 150 stars you can access the Castle Roof. Outside by the lake is a cannon which appears once you have all the stars, allowing you to get up there. Yoshi, a few blocks containing 1-Ups and a ! block with a feather (for Mario) can be found. If you are Luigi then his last Minigame bunny rabbit is here too. ------------------- Fatter Penguin Race ------------------- After getting 150 stars, return to Cool, Cool Mountain and race the penguin again, to find it's much bigger. ----------------------------- Different Comment from Bowser ----------------------------- Get 150 stars and defeat the ending Bowser battle again for a different commentfrom him. ---------------------------- Missing Characters in Ending ---------------------------- By not unlocking either Mario, Luigi or Wario in the ending sequence then they simply won't appear in it. -------------------------------- Different Tick Tock Clock Speeds -------------------------------- Entering this stage at different times on the clock will change it's speed. 3 is slow, 6 is medium, 9 is fast and 12 stops everything. =============================================================================== --------------- 6. REC ROOM --------------- =============================================================================== This section covers the minigames that you unlock in the main adventure, and can be then played in the Rec Room. Each minigame description tells you how to unlock each one, the in-game description (note that this isn't of my own composition, but from the game) and how to play with general hints and tips. If you have any of your own to contribute, then give me an email. Thanks to Revned for allowing me to use his bunny location data! =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= 5.01. Yoshi Minigames =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= ------- Wanted! ------- How to Unlock - N/A In-Game Description - It's easy to get lost in a crowd! Find the one who disappeared and touch him. There he is! How to Play - You have to find either Yoshi, Mario, Luigi or Wario out of the crowd of faces on display. The top screen shows who you are looking for, while the display is on the bottom touch screen. Analyse carefully the character you are looking for, and touch them when you think you've spotted them. You get 5 seconds for locating correctly and minus 10 seconds for guessing incorrectly! As you go on more and more faces are added, and they being to move around the screen making your work even tougher. Try and look for really distingshing features, such as cap colour, eyes, face shape and so on. ------------ Loves me...? ------------ How to Unlock - N/A In-Game Description - Play this mini-game for advice on your love life! Pluck the petals to find out how your crush feels about you. How to Play - Just touch and pull away the petals from the flower. It'll land on either 'Love Me' or 'Loves Me Not'. Not much else to it. ----------------- Hide and Boo Seek ----------------- How to Unlock - As Yoshi, catch the bunny roaming around in the castle grounds. In-Game Description - Rub the Touch Screen where the Boos are hiding! For the 15 levels, you get 3 seconds to find them. After that, you only get 3 seconds. How to Play - The Boos will be shown on screen, start moving and the screen will fade to black. Rub away to show their location; if any remain undetected then you lose! For the first few just trace their movements with the stylus, and for the later ones unless you are sure exactly where they are, rub madly across the segment of the screen where you think they are. Quite tough! ------------ Puzzle Panel ------------ How to Unlock - As Yoshi, catch the bunny roaming around in the castle grounds. In-Game Description - Match the Touch Screen picture to the top screen. Touch a panel to turn over the surrounding panels. Harder levels will take more turns to solve. How to Play - On the top screen is the completed grid, while on the bottom is the grid with a move missing. Touching a panel will rotate that panel and all those touching it, so that it matches the top screen grid. Remember that if you touch an edge panel it'll only rotate those around it (sometimes I get a brain block and forget this, so I better pass this information on to you ;P). You have as much time as required, so mentally work out what happens when you rotate the panels before actually doing so. -------- Boom Box -------- How to Unlock - As Yoshi, catch the bunny roaming around in the castle grounds. In-Game Description - Each time you open a treasure chest, you'll hear a sound. Open 2 chests with the same sound. Win by matching all the pairs! How to Play - Luck and memory is required here. In the early levels you have 6 chests and 3 lives, meaning if you just remember what you've chosen you'll be able to progress. Pick the left two and in your mind remember what they sound like, or a word to describe that sound. Then move on to the central two chests. If you have a match, match them up. Do this until all are done. When it comes to eight chests, luck comes more into play and be sure to match when you get the chance. Later you'll get sounds that are nearly the same as one another; these are different in the order of what the speakers are used; either left to right or right to left so listen carely and remember correctly. --------------- Tox Box Shuffle --------------- How to Unlock - As Yoshi, catch the bunny in the flower patch over the wooden bridge in the castle grounds. In-Game Description - Oh no! Yoshi's trapped in a Tox Box! Find which one he's in to save him! How to Play - Note where Yoshi starts and concentrate on that box only, as it swaps places with the others. Keep watching at all times, and use the stylus to trace it's movement if it helps. Later levels have faster moving boxes and different coloured Yoshi's to contend with. -------------- Which Wiggler? -------------- How to Unlock - As Yoshi, catch the bunny in the hedge maze in the castle grounds. In-Game Description - Touch the Wiggler on the Touch screen that matches the one on the top screen. Choose carefully, though; he has a terrible temper. How to Play - On the top screen is the Wriggler you are trying to find - make a mental note on the patterns on it's body. I find it easiest to remember the circle location in order; like left centre twin and then finding it, or just concentrating on one segment and finding the only Wrigglers with that segment in the same place to narrow down the search. You get an additional 5 seconds each time you correctly find the Wriggler and minus 10 seconds when you make a mistaken choice, so be sure before you pick. Later the Wriggler's move around the screen, so concentrate more; I find it better to take your time and make the right choice then to half guess and risk losing a stack of seconds. --------- Mix-a-Mug --------- How to Unlock - As Yoshi, catch the bunny in front of the enterance to Lethal Lava Land in the castle basement. In-Game Description - Line up the slots on the Touch Screen to form a face. Win more coins by matching the center face in the slots to the one on the top screen. How to Play - This is really hard to actually win in; you have to match up all the faces to win coins. The orders being - Hat - Mario Luigi Wario Face - Mario Wario Luigi Chin - Mario Luigi Wario Remember that they go in different directions, so make the right stop to get them in order. ------------ Puzzle Panic ------------ How to Unlock - As Yoshi, catch the bunny in front of the basement door, after draining the castle moat (outside). In-Game Description - This mini-game takes the Puzzle Panel top a whole new level. Put on your thinking cap. You're going to need it. How to Play - As the description states, this is the same as Puzzle Panel but you have more panels on the screen to contend with here. On the top screen is the completed grid, while on the bottom is the grid with a move missing. Later you'll have a bigger grid and more turns to create, meaning more thinking required. Ho hum. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= 5.02. Mario Minigames =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= -------------- Mario's Slides -------------- How to Unlock - N/A In-Game Description - Guide Mario down the slides to the Star. Draw lines on the Touch Screen to create new routes for him. Collect 5 Stars to move up a stage. How to Play - Have a quick second to see what line Mario will go down on the touch screen then draw lines across so it reaches the Star. As more come down, they will end up in different places and thus the lines you have drawn will lead them in different places, so quickly correct them as they arrive. By the end you'll have lines everywhere, but as long as they are correct and that Mario does not end up face first at a pirhana then you'll be alright. ----------------- Bounce and Pounce ----------------- How to Unlock - N/A In-Game Description - Mario's in free fall, but he can bouce back if you touch him. Stomp the Fly Guys, but make sure he doesn't fall off the Touch Screen. How to Play - Concentrate on the Mario's as they fall, as if they don't end up going on a Shy Guy then tap them to bounce up again until they do. Know that depending on where you tap Mario you can direct him, so tapping the left side will make him go up to the right. Just keep an eye out on the bottom screen and hit the Mario's before they drop out completely and eventually they will hit the Shy Guys. --------------- Sort or 'Splode --------------- How to Unlock - As Mario, catch the bunny near the ledge by the waterfall. In-Game Description - Guide Bob-ombs to the black carpet and Bob-omb Buddies to the red carpet. If you bring in a wrong-coloured Bob-Omb, it will blow up! How to Play - Very simple, yet stupidly insane as it goes on. Sort the black Bob-Ombs to their den, the red to theirs. Do it as quick as you can otherwise they'll explode anyway and destroy everything. Early on you can afford to just sort out one colour at a time, later you really got to concentrate as it is so easy to put them in the wrong one. --------------- Trampoline Time --------------- How to Unlock - As Mario, catch the bunny in the Jolly Roger Bay room. In-Game Description - Draw a line on the Touch Screen to turn it in to a trampoline. You can draw up to 3 lines at a time. Help Mario bounce to safety! How to Play - Draw a line that Mario can bounce off to the exit on the right side of the screen. The smaller the line, the higher Mario will bounce. At first, as you can imagine is easy, as as long as you get Mario anywhere up the top right he'll drop down and exit. Later more Mario's arrive at once, and you have to get them in the bottom exit. When it gets tough, bounce them high up so you can manage them slower, and draw a few lines as your own safety nets. There is also one at the bottom of the screen anyway that will save you a few times. ------------- Shuffle Shell ------------- How to Unlock - As Mario, catch the bunny in the mirror room on the second floor (where you enter Snowman's Land). In-Game Description - Use the paddle to push the Koopa shells to the target. The closer the shells land to the center of the target, the more points you will earn. How to Play - *Sorta* like curling in that only the last round counts. As you go try and get as close as you can to the centre of the target but remember that you can easily knock any shells out of the way, so use this to your advantage, or remember not to move any nicely placed shells out of the target. ------------------ Bounce and Trounce ------------------ How to Unlock - As Mario, catch the bunny in the basement. In-Game Description - Mario's surrounded by Fly Guys to trounce. Touch him on his left, right or centre to make him bounce in that direction. How to Play - Same as Bounce and Pounce, expect you keep going with the Shy Guy bounces being totted up and they appear on the top screen. Concentrate on the Mario's as they fall, as if they don't end up going on a Shy Guy then tap them to bounce up again until they do. Know that depending on where you tap Mario you can direct him, so tapping the left side will make him go up to the right. Just keep an eye out on the bottom screen and hit the Mario's before they drop out completely to stay in the clear. ---------------------- Connect the Characters ---------------------- How to Unlock - As Mario, catch the bunny in the basement. In-Game Description - Draw lines to match the character's heads to their bodies. Press "GO!" when you're finished to see how you fared! How to Play - Like Mario's Slides, here you have to match the differing heads to the toy bodies on the bottom. Take your time as you begin to figure out where the draw the lines, and that height counts (to expel certain heads from certain routes). ----------- Shell Smash ----------- How to Unlock - As Mario, catch the bunny outside under the bridge, after draining the moat. In-Game Description - Hit Koopa shells together to score points. Hit many in a row for even more points. Score even higher points by smashing green shells together. How to Play - One of the more fun minigames, just smash the green shells into those on the screen to notch up points each time they collide. The more times the shells collide the more of a combo they create, so try and hit them in to a group of shells so they all bounce off and hit others around to get a higher score. Plus, when green shells hit one another you get higher amounts of points to boot, so try and aim for that, but note this is mostly down to luck due to the uncertain nature of physics and all that. ----------------- Trampoline Terror ----------------- How to Unlock - As Mario, catch the bunny in second floor where all the picture frames are. In-Game Description - Only players with superb stylus skills will be able to make Mario bounce through the rings! How to Play - The description is a lie, as long as you just ensure the Marios keep bouncing he'll go through the rings eventually. >_> Like its sister trampoline mini game you can only have 3 trampolines on the screen at one time, and the smaller the line the higher Mario will bounce. Aim them at angles so Mario goes through the rings but above all make sure he doesn't fall down below off the screen. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= 5.03. Luigi Minigames =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= ------------ Memory Match ------------ How to Unlock - N/A In-Game Description - Pick two matching cards to make them disappear. Clear all cards to win. How to Play - Luck and memory is required here. Pick the left two and in your mind remember what they sound like, then move on to the next row. Find a match, match them up. Do this until all are done. As it's to eight cards, luck comes more into play and be sure to match when you get the chance. ----------- Pair-a-Gone ----------- How to Unlock - N/A In-Game Description - Touch 2 identical cards that are connected vertically, horizontally, or diagonally to make them disappear. Clear them all to win! How to Play - Seems rather easy, but you gotta think about this all the way through. As you pick off pairs the rows shift around, meaning you could isolate the last two types of a card so they can never meet; usually this occurs on the top line. Make sure that you try and deal with those cards on the top line, as well as any directly next to one another, and try and manually move rows so pairs meet. You have an unlimited amount of time to make your moves, so take your time. ------------- Picture Poker ------------- How to Unlock - As Luigi, catch the bunny in the back courtyard; it's on the ledge above the door that leads in and out of here. In-Game Description - Get a better hand than Luigi to win! If you're confident your hand is best, increase the number of coins you bet! How to Play - First off, whatever you select is taken away, and not held (which confused me on my first few goes). Anyway this is standard 5 card poker, with the values and winnings as so - 5 of a Kind - 16x HIGHEST VALUE - Star 4 of a Kind - 8x Mario Full House (3 of a Kind & Pair) - 6x Luigi 3 of a Kind - 4x Flower 2 pair - 3x Mushroom Pair - 2x LOWEST VALUE - Cloud It's most likely best to hold any matching cards, hoping that you can get more of the same, getting more of a kind. If you have 5 individual cards, then either pick the highest value or two of the highest value and hope for the best. Of course the more confident you are, the more you can bet. If it's a draw then you get your bet back. ----------------- Mushroom Roulette ----------------- How to Unlock - As Luigi, catch the bunny where you drained the moat in the castle basement. In-Game Description - Guess where the ball will land on the routlette wheel. Guess correctly to win coins! How to Play - Place 5 coins on either a character or just a colour, and if the ball lands on that segment of the wheel you win coins. You'll get x2 the bet on a colour, and x12 on a character. ---------- Mario Slot ---------- How to Unlock - As Luigi, catch the bunny in the room with the Mario painting on the first floor. In-Game Description - Touch the spinning slots to stop them. Get 3 items in a row to earn coins! The Superstar is wild. How to Play - Bet coins and if you get the correct slots, you win more coins! Huzzah! Winnings as follows - 3 Superstars - x20 3 Stars - x15 3 Fire Flowers - x10 3 Mushrooms - x10 3 Feathers - x5 3 Yoshi Eggs - x5 2 Superstars - x4 1 Superstar - x1 I find it quite tough to win at this, plus the Superstars are quite tough to get anyway, let alone getting three of any item. As far as I know it's mostly luck, so just give it a shot. ----------- Lucky Stars ----------- How to Unlock - As Luigi, catch the bunny in the room with the Bob-Omb picture on the first floor of the castle. In-Game Description - From a pair of cards, pick the one with more Stars to win coins. Beat Luigi at his own game! How to Play - Just pick one of the two cards, and if it has more stars you win double your bet. All about luck. ------------------ Pair-a-Gone and On ------------------ How to Unlock - As Luigi, catch the bunny in the hedge maze in the castle grounds. In-Game Description - This game of Pair-a-Gone goes on forever! Test your skill and see how many cards you can clear. Go for the record! How to Play - Same as the standard Pair-a-Gone game, except it never ends. Seems rather easy, but you gotta think about this all the way through. ------------- Memory Master ------------- How to Unlock - As Luigi, catch the bunny in the second floor picture room. In-Game Description - If Memory Match was a piece of cake for you, try out this harder version. You now have more cards to play with. How to Play - This is Memory Match, now with 16 cards with 8 possible pairs. Luck and memory is required here. Pick the left two and in your mind remember what they sound like, then move on to the next row. Find a match, match them up. Do this until all are done. As it's to 16 cards, luck comes more into play and be sure to match when you get the chance. ---------------- Super Mario Slot ---------------- How to Unlock - As Luigi, catch the bunny on top of the castle; when you get all 150 stars and use the cannon in the grounds to get up there. In-Game Description - Touch the spinning slots to stop them. Get 3 items in a row to earn coins! The Superstar is wild. How to Play - This is the same as the same as Mario Slot, bar it's somewhat easier to win. As before it's all about luck, so bet what you want and give it a go. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= 5.04. Wario Minigames =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= ------------- Bob-omb Squad ------------- How to Unlock - N/A In-Game Description - The parachuting Bob-ombs are destroying your flowers! Use your slingshot to knock them out of the air. Hit Lakitu to blow them all up. How to Play - Here you have to spring back the ball to hit the falling Bob-ombs before they hit the flowers. You can easily pick them off to begin with, but later hordes and hordes come and it gets really tough; use the Lakitu when ever you can to clear the screen, and remember you can fire horizontally and down if you need to get some below the slingshot. Also, you don't have to stretch it back fully, just a small tug will send it at a reasonable speed. --------------- Snowball Slalom --------------- How to Unlock - N/A In-Game Description - Rub the Touch Screen to roll the snowman's head to the goal before the time runs out! Rocks will slow you down, as will touching his head! How to Play - Strike the screen upward and keep repeating to roll the snowball up the course. Keep an eye out on the top screen as you go for on coming edges or rocks, as hitting one will stop you dead. If you want to do a perfect run, then you want a bit of luck that the course generated for you isn't that choc-a-bloc. ---------- Bingo Ball ---------- How to Unlock - As Wario, catch the bunny in the castle grounds. In-Game Description - Launch a ball into a numbered slot on the Touch Screen. That number will light up in the top screen. Get 3 numbers in a row to score! How to Play - You got to fire the ball in to the table above, so it drops down into one of the number slots; get three in a row to score. It's possible to get all of the numbers checked off, just launch the balls at different speeds and they should cover the entire table. -------------- Coincentration -------------- How to Unlock - As Wario, catch the bunny in the room of Whomps Fortress. In-Game Description - Pay attention to where the falling coins land. Touch the blocks to retrieve the coins. But if you choose the wrong block, your game will end. How to Play - As the name suggests, concentrate on where the coins sink in, especially those that hide several coins. If you can remember several blocks containing 3 coins then you'll get a decent score here, otherwise lots of guessing will work once you are all out of ideas. ----------- Psyche Out! ----------- How to Unlock - As Wario, catch the bunny at the dead end corridor (where Toad is) in the basement. In-Game Description - Are you psychic? Can you guess what's on the card's other side? Maybe if you stare at it long enough, a vision will come to you. How to Play - This game is a bit stupid, if you ask me. Look at the cards long enough and one will display a transparent image of what you are looking for. Sometimes you might have to wait a while. Later I waited for ages for nothing to appear, so perhaps some guess work will have to do. ---------- Slots Shot ---------- How to Unlock - As Wario, catch the bunny in the back courtyard. In-Game Description - The bars swing open when a ball goes in a Piranha Plant. Sink the ball into the pipe to trigger the slots Switch. Get 3 items in a row for a bonus! How to Play - Fire balls up to the table; hitting mushrooms nets you 300 points a go (green mushrooms disappear for a short while when hit) and getting the ball in one of the holes gives you 2000 points and gives you a ball in return. You need to get the ball in at least one of the Pirahnas in order to open up the pipe - you get 3000 for getting it in, plus more if you manage to get several items on the slots. If the ball goes to the bottom and remains then it will just vanish after a short while. ------------- Lakitu Launch ------------- How to Unlock - As Wario, catch the bunny in the room with the Tiny-Huge island pictures in. In-Game Description - Shoot as many balls as you can into the tubs within the allotted time. How to Play - Slingshot the balls in to the floating tubs; remember to aim in front due to the lag time of the slingshot, and that the tubs are moving around. If you concentrate on one tub it will fall, allowing you to quickly get more in there as it is immobile. ---------------------- Intense Coincentration ---------------------- How to Unlock - As Wario, catch the bunny on the top floor of the castle, in front of Tick Tock Clock. In-Game Description - There aren't as many falling coins this time around, but that won't stop Wario. Watch the coins carefully.
