Game: Pure Pool System(s): Playstation 4, Xbox One, PC Author: Andrea Castillo aka Ice Queen Zero/Azul Fria Introduction I've written several FAQs over the years and I've had a few layoffs here and there but I can't believe I haven't written one FAQ for the year of 2015. Mortal Kombat X I actually started working on but put on hold. Madden NFL '15 I started in 2014 and updated until Feb 2015 but that's the sacrifices one must make when dealing with motherhood. The potential Ice Queen heir just had her 3rd birthday yesterday (07/28/2015) and I figured it would be a good time to surface with a new FAQ called Pure Pool which I also made a review for. OVERVIEW The creators of another well known pool game called Hustle Kings are back with another pool game to entertain you. There are several cue sports games within this gem that ups the ante on pool competition and minigame challenges such as Perfect Potter, Royal Rumble, Speed Pot, and Checkpoint. There are several opponents you can try luck against in US 8-ball and Blackball even though UK rules are used, 9-ball, Killer and the game exclusive Accumulator. Disclaimer Pure Pool and its characters are trademarks of Ripstone Ltd and all copyrights belong to them. This FAQ/Walkthrough is the sole copyright of Andrea "Azul Fria" Castillo aka Ice Queen Zero (or IQ-0) and cannot be put on other sites or posted without my given permission nor can it be reproduced w/o proper consent. For more guides by myself visit this link: http://www.gamefaqs.com/features/recognition/74803.html CONTROLS D-pad: Maneuver through options Left Thumbstick: Move around to aim the shot Right Thumbstick: Pull back to draw your cue stick then push forward to take the shot. Cross/A: Confirm option, Fine aim (use with left thumbstick to aim slowly) Circle/B: Back up, Apply Spin (use with left thumbstick to adjust spin Triangle/Y: Set ball or pick up ball when ball in hand is in effect. Square/X: Retry challenge, Stand Up to observe table L1 & R1/LB & RT: Shift through tournament options. Hold R1/RB to view match specific accolades. Touch Pad (PS4 only) run your finger along the surface to view the table as if you are turning your head. GLOSSARY Break - When the balls are racked up, the initial shot will break them apart. Pot - sink your ball into a pocket Corner Pocket - The four pockets on the corners of the pool table. Side Pocket - The two side pockets in the middle of the pool table. Cue Ball - The white ball that you use to hit the others. Ball in hand - After a foul, the ball can be placed anywhere and shot at. During a break, this is restricted to within the first diamond. Foul - An illegal shot. Some result in ball in hand situations, the other result in automatic loss Scratch - Potting the cue ball or knocking it off the table. Spin - Known as applying English. You hit the ball off center and you make it spin to a side if hit from the side. See Apply Spin for details Follow - Applying spin at the top of the ball. This makes the cue ball continue forward upon impact. Draw - Known in this game as Screw. Hit the bottom of the ball and it will either roll backwards or it will stop on a dime upon impact. Plant - Where you play one object ball into another and pot it. Double - Where you play an object ball off the cushion and pot it. Bank Shot - Bounce the cue ball off the cushion to hit the target ball. It must be a certain distance away from the cushion to count. Potting is optional but it is used mainly for getting out of snookers. Snooker - There is no way to hit the target ball in a straight line so you must use a bank shot to hit it. Open Table - Any ball can be potted except the 8 ball during 8 ball. MODES There are several to try out in this game. Just hit the Options button and you will see what modes there are: My Games, Players, Career, Rankings, My Profile, Challenges, Extras, Help My Games Play a Quick game against an online opponent, play a local P1 vs P2 opponent, practice against an opponent AI online, or play within a league. Players Players DNA built into the game or from people you have played in the past that you can play against offline. There is even a free DNA pack available in the PSN store. Career There are 6 career games you can play in career mode: Amateur/Pro/Master 8-ball and Amateur/Pro/Master 9-ball. You must defeat all opponents in the Amateurs to reach the Pros and do the same in the Pros to reach the Masters. Your aim guide will be of little to no help. Rankings See the top 50 ranked players in the game. My Profile Here you will adjust your profile to your liking. Player Card shows your world status. When playing quick games, you choose the game you want to play using Game Type. Skill level determines if you consider yourself an Amateur, Pro, or Master during the Quick or League game. Table Skins determine if you want to have a logo on the baize (know in America as the felt), Baize Colour is self explanatory, and Cues are the different types of cure sticks you earn as you level up. Cues Standard Cue Novice Cue Apprentice Cue Talented Cue Skilled Cue Semi-Pro Cue Pro Cue Expert Cue Hustler Cue Veteran Cue Legendary Cue Master Cue Grand Master Cue Pure Cue You can also use this method to see what level you need to reach to earn that rank as well. Such as Grand Master Cue is unlocked at level 126 which is when you rank up to Grand Master status but Purist is the highest level ranking. Baize Colour Blue Red Slate Pink Green Orange Charcoal Aqua Yellow Purple One thing to note is that because there was a purple baize during the title screen intro, fans requested that color and it was given as option during one of the gamesà updates. The core games are played during career mode and online mode. Minigames once all are played in career mode can be accessed during challenge mode. Core games: 8 ball, 9 ball, Killer, Accumulator, A fifth game called Blackball is a variation of 8 ball that can be played online. Minigames: Perfect Potter, Royal Rumble, Speed Pot, Checkpoint Each game have their own set of rules and fouls. Fouls result in either the opponent getting possession with ball in hand or automatic loss. Automatic loss fouls: Potting the 8 ball illegaly in 8 ball, potting the 8 ball legally but commiting a separate foul, fouling 3 consecutive times in 9 ball. This doesn't happen in the game but if you somehow knock the 8 ball off the table in real life, that is an automatic loss foul. Ball in hand fouls: Scratching (potting the cue ball), knocking the cue ball of the table, hitting no ball at all, hitting the wrong target ball, potting an opponent's ball in 8 ball, no ball hitting a cushion on the shot, less than 4 balls hitting a cushion on the break, potting a ball out of turn in Accumulator, failing to pot a ball in Killer. 8 ball There seems to be one major difference between US and UK 8 ball rules. That difference is in America, potting the 8 ball on break without fouling is a win. In UK, potting an 8 ball on break without fouling results in a re-break and in addition, any ball or like balls that went in along with the 8 ball is the ball you must hit on the re-break. If 2 different balls went in aside from the 8 ball then its counts as the normal rebreak. In Pure Pool, UK rules apply. Your goal is to sink your balls and then the 8 ball before your opponent does the same. Your set of balls solids (called spots in this games) or stripes will be the first matching ball you pot in or opposite of the first ball the opponent pot in. If multiple balls were potted on open table (can pot any ball but the 8 ball), the ones you potted the most of will be your set of balls otherwise an even number of each set of balls potted simultaneously still results in an open table. Blackball Same rules as 8 ball except you are playing reds vs yellows with the object to pot all your red or yellow balls first before potting the black ball. 9 ball The object of this game is to be the first to pot the 9 ball legally. No matter how much of the other balls get potted, potting the 9-ball is what wins the game. You start off by trying to pot the balls in order of the lowest number to the highest being the 9-ball but if you are fan of using plant shots then this game can end super quickly as you can knock the legal target into another ball to pot the latter. This is where those physics come into play. If you are lucky, you can pot the 9-ball on break and win instantly. Unlike 8 ball, if you pot the 9 ball illegally, the game will not end. The 9-ball will be put back on the table and a ball in hand is applied. If the 9 ball is the last ball and ball in hand goes into effect, you can count it as a loss unless your opponent messes up the shot. Killer Each player takes turns trying to pot at least one ball on the shot. Each player starts with 3 lives. If a foul is comitted or a ball is not potted, that player loses a life. Lose all your lives and the game is over. Potting the 8 ball gains a life as well as potting multiple balls. You can even gain 2 lives by potting the 8 ball and another ball in the same shot. One player will break and can earn a life by potting multiple ball there. However, there are some restrictions. Any fouls during a life gaining pot will nullify the life gain and result in a life lost. Once all balls are cleared off the table, whoever was not the player to clear the table is the one who will break the next set of balls. Accumulator Your goal is to pot all the balls in the order from the lowest number to the highest number and you must hit that ball first and pot only that ball unless another ball that got hit was the next in value. Some of you may recognize this as Rotation or 61 on paper. However, there is a major twist. In the normal game of Rotation, you can play it similar to 9 ball and use plant shots from the target ball to the other ball. You would normally get points for the value of the potted plant ball. In Accumulator, the rules have changed. Not only would planting result in a foul, the value of the ball will be awarded to the opponent which is why I said pot the target ball and only that ball unless the next ball that falls in was next in value. Comitting other fouls will result in 1 point for the opponent. As with Killer, don't scratch when you pot a ball. Not only will the opponent get 1 point but any points you would have gained from potting the target ball would be nullifed and if the foul was potting another non-next value ball, the value points will take precedence or the normal pot-scratch foul. The game ends when all balls are cleared from the table and the winner is the one with the highest accumulated points. Not sure what happens on a tie. Challenge: Speed Pot Pot all the balls on the table in the fastest time possible. There are 15 balls which you must pot and there is a 5 second penalty for each time you scratch Challenge: Royal Rumble Pot all of the balls of the table as quickly as possible. There is a 5 second penalty for each time you scratch. Every 30 seconds, a new ball falls into play. Challenge: Checkpoint Pot as many balls as you can before time runs out. You gain 6 seconds for each ball you pot. There is no penalty for scratching. Challenge: Perfect Potter Pot as many balls as you can in a row without missing a pot. The game ends if you miss a pot or scratch.
